Thanks for digging this up. Unfortunately I don't "parlo Italiano" so I will have to your word for the content.
I suppose we should be grateful for any publicity, even if it is bad?
I was going to post a reply with my "rose tinted" glasses removed but I decided against it. All I wish to say is:-
The cost of designing, developing and manfacturing custom built "Amiga" hardware in Europe which is designed to run the AmigaOS (and Debian Squeeze) is very high compared to mass produced off-the-shelf x86 hardware bulit in China which runs Linux Mint and NOT the AmigaOS.
Whichever way you dress it up those are the facts. Fortunately, most Amiga users know this already.

I couldn“t agree more. Though I am not able to buy an AmigaOne X1000 at the moment (too expensive for my current situation), I respect your great engagement to create a new Amiga. CUSA just sells standard-PC-hardware with an Amiga-sticker.Last edited by AP on 26-Apr-2012 at 08:36 PM.

| Seems to be a lot of ignorant ppl there, & in this forum, about the x1000 update.
The FC systems could not use the pata drives some ppl want to use because new sata drives are so expensive now, more a beta request, as the FC systems are shipped with sata drives. The sata driver shipped with the FC systems could only do pio4, the new sata driver does udma (133 mb/s). That alone is worth doing the update.
Funny, everyone bitches about long waits for updates, now the goal is to try & put out smaller updates faster & we still bitch?

I'm not really sure what the issue is. I'm sure FC customers are pleased to get updates for their A1-X1000 as and when they are released.

It's an ancient proverb after all: Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
The logical conclusion: Chalk the complaints down as stupidity and go with what you want.
Haters will hate, and spin anything to fit their agenda. Not releasing an update to your customers because haters wouldn't appreciate it seems a LITTLE bit strange.
Updates should of course not be pushed through at any cost, but I don't see a lot of complaints about the daily updates I get on Windows and Linux. _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). | Well here is my experience, when I was working on aros iMIca project, all I heard was "must be native before I buy", so after a while and a little money compared to the cost of X1000 development I got it native. Next it must be cheap, well they started from £150 for a full Aros based iMIca, finally it must be silent . . . .
http://www.imica.net/SitePortalPage.aspx?siteid=1&did=136
So I jumped through hoops to deliver and sales were well, less than 10.
What is the moral of the story, don't do it to please potential customers and make money in this market, just do it to please your friends and yourself.
And this is what Trevor did. Last edited by clusteruk on 27-Apr-2012 at 11:51 AM. Last edited by clusteruk on 27-Apr-2012 at 11:50 AM.

Stephen, gosh I didn't realize my little AROS machine was such a limited edition. But it's a fun little thing that was not very costly to buy, and it's getting better with every new Icaros install (way more stability now, in fact). I hope you found some enjoyment from the project. Thanks for the effort._________________

The really funny things is that I stopped making them and decided to send my personal one to Carl Sassenrath as a thank you for all of the pleasure Amiga has given me. But when I went to get another for a spare board I have they had none of the slim silent cases left so I do not have one
So if you want to sell it back to me
Still having just as much fun typing from my Acer aspire which benefitted from the same drivers so its all good.

Great review, and also small and significant promo of X1000.
Way much better and insightful in comparison with CUSA then Italian one.

At the end I think is the usual communication crap issue, but this may be a "problem" only for people outside the community, we have perfectly understand what this update contain and why they release it
Of course calling it "Update" rathen the "Quickfix" can give some confusion out there because someone can expect a lot of things inside it, however if you knew the author of that italian article you will understand easily that it's the usual flame criticism, you can be sure that anythings will be released (even a dreamed memory protection implementation !) will become a crap for them, of course this is valid only for OS4, other OS are just perfect .. as usual
Still i can't remember any single contributions from such ppls

Actually, no. You just failed to notice user profile for AROS is different to OS4._________________ Amiga Developer Amiga 500, Efika, Mac Mini and PowerBook |

You mean "OS4" developers are more commercial than Aros developers? I doubt that anybody got rich in the last years by developing amiga-software... |

| Cesare Di Mauro has written a similar article about Commodore USA just a few weeks ago, blaming the fact that - in a few words - "they are here only for (our) money", there's not a single praise word about Commodore USA in his text, apart recognizing they are selling a product that make (any) sense. Maybe the grammar could be better, but reading in a English-speaking forum critics about semantic and grammar of an italian article is just... well... amusing. Unluckily, my thoughts about the whole X1000 operation aren't so far from his own, but this has not much to do with my answer. I would just like to point that:
Quote:
Comparisons to completely unrelated computers and unrelated operating systems is useless |
...is a very pointless answer. The money you use to buy the X1000 are the same money you can use to buy something else, they are the fruit of your work and/or fatigue as well. He's not talking to Amigalang citizens, nor he's trying to get the plause of this community: he's speaking to the broader audience of all IT enthisiast out here (in Italy). People who may prefer to go to the PC dealer and buy - for the same price - a mainstream PC with the best processor, the best graphic cards and even a SSD drive into it to do everything they want, instead of "the best and most powerful machine to run AmigaOS 4" just to run... well.. AmigaOS 4. Common people can't understand why a computer should get IDE and Serial support only today, nor why the operating system they are sold with is still unable to get the most from the hardware, people just expect to run them the same day they buy it. |

No. I mean AROS user profile is different to OS4. Like why X1000 sold more than iMIca but there are roughly equal number of users.

ahh now I understand. That is a special community you belong to or not. But I also know another community that buys 10 years old used hardware for their OS, strange too? |

That less people buy Ares than X1000 is simple to explain. You can (more or less) use every PC for Aros (or install it in VMWare). AOS is only installable in a handful (expensive) systems so you have no real choice than to buy a system or drop the platform. |

what's the problem? i think any of us is free to express or to write its/their reviews about AmigaOne X1000, Hyperion, A-Eon or ACube Systems products why you are so scandalized by an article just Italian? There are many other italian articles like this and i think in the world there will be others
however you can freely continues to export here any further italian articles :)

If his audience is soley the PC users / gamers whatever, then why write an article at all?
It's pretty clear that he's a 'Jock bullying the school geek' for being different becuae 1 he's an easy target 2 he doesn't understand them and is therefore scared of them. or perhaps 3 because he has some underlying grudge.
And the recent update for the x1000 added serial and ide, and extended / improved support for the other disc drivers. If someone on the outside can't understand why we might add support for legacy hardware then to be hohnest why should give him as much coverage in this thread that we are?
And people are commenting on his offensive use of language not his use of grammar.
