I'm not deluding myself. I'm looking at what I think OctaMED needs. I don't think OctaMED needs to be fully modernised. All we really need is a version that works and plays without crashing.

The OctaMED story goes futher back than AEON. I recall over ten years ago there was to be a PPC port. But it just never eventuated.

Around the same time I released The Maestrix. I expected it to last one year or two at the most as a stop gap. Until a PPC MED was released with direct AHI support.

Well were still waiting. And despite being years old and in need of some updates. The Maestrix is still relevant.

Well, to OS4/MOS?/AROS OctaMED users.

Absolutely agree! At the moment I can get OctaMED working, but it requires The Maestrix, and I have to mount the CD, and there are still the occasional stability hiccup. I don't need a new Reaction GUI (although it would be nice), or any new features necessarily (other than working with AHI seamlessly). I just want it to run and work well without any kludges required. And I'd pay for it, too.

Thanks. There's a few versions. Aminet, CU, demo and I have the CD as well. I may have copied the whole CD to a drawer to install but I forget. Might need to check the docs. I don't need the CD to use it.

The most major problem I have is after a render I get a freeze on my X1000. Can reboot but the render is gone. I have setup a RAD in desperation but still lost it. Also it is known to crash on exit, something to which Helgis will attest.

I just checked and it is font sensitive. Windows gadgets slightly off as they are too small. But a few flags should fix that up. In any case there was some work put into giving GadTools a ReAction look. But I am fine with the clean look of GadTools.

It should have been about now but production is based in China so it's been pushed back. Hopefuly it'll be on sale by the end of the year.

Thanks. Blimey yes the X5000 is quite expensive. Then again some people don't blink at that much or more for a Macbook Pro etc.

Has the pricing on the A1222 been released? Can't seem to see it anywhere. All i've seen is "around $500", have any more specifics been given?

The discounted price for the 100 pre-orders was £350 so my guess is that the final price for everybody else will be £400-£450.

Except in 32 years, the price of every other form of technology has dropped so precipitously that you can get a lot more today for a lot less money. There is absolutely no reason that a 35 year old OS needs to run on outdated, expensive hardware.

The problem is the software... and that problem is perpetuated by a select number of people who control the IP. The OS can't be maintained. Or enhanced. Or ported. Or redeveloped. It just slowly withers towards an inevitable death.

The arguments that those in charge are actually rather nice in person and it's unfair to cast judgement are beyond ridiculous.

If the mandate is to litigate the Amiga into obscurity just make if official so that we can give it a proper send-off.

Amiga is already an obscure platform (since many, many years). If you don't like what's available (BTW: there is far more than only AmigaOS4 to choose from, even an open-source version called AROS) than just make your personal send-off and let the others have fun with whatever they want.

The situation is far from perfect, but do you really think that with other players AmigaOS will raise again and become a mainstream-OS?

Thanks, sorry I didn't want to start any arguments, just interested in the latest goings on!

Hard to dip in and out of the Amiga scene, when you've been away for a while trying to catch up on all the latest info.

I think until A1222 is released might try OS4 in WinUAE. I got WarpOS working today so should not be to difficult if I follow the guide.
