So far only Sam460 performance without GPU support. And GPU thing is so important for quick and responsive system. Not bad for brute force emulation.

But A1222 is clocked higher. But it will all depend on program your running, if compiled for the CPU, or if it has to emulate FPU instructions, integer instructions are uneffected by the CPU choice. SPE are actually high performance SIMD instruction float instructions, if programs take advantage.

I know, but I meant the things/ideas what the guys from MorphOS are doing.

x64/ARM board with native kernel and gpu support, then PowerPC emulation.

Last benchmarks I saw, they where much slower then the Sam460, and that machine is allready very slow in today standards. Too much dependencies on recompilation, which not will happen.

Clearly it was not good idea, picking a CPU just on price was horrible idea, if you have spent 13 years to get it to work as intended. The choice of CPU most likely is not only issue that delayed the project.

This kind of reminds me of poor choice of Nortbridge in the AmigaONE-SE/XE/Micro machines Artica S was responsible huge amount of debugging and unnecessary waste of time. Via686b was also know for being a problem chip, while it was maybe not wort part.

And I really don’t care if it has a feature, if the features are not what we needed. but I do hope someone will take advantage of the SPE. So does end up like another XMOS.

Another thing integrated designs with everything on the motherboard, looks good on paper, but once you start having issues, there is where little you can do. The Sam460 is smarter design, because it’s so freaking simple. But it can be more efficient if Acube-Systems did not cut some corners. I read the specification of CPU, and its not operating peak performance.

(just copy & paste what I wrote, on the last page, as no one will read it.)

QorIQ 5020/5040 so far been good choices, small production runs, has kept at high price, but not a too bad choice, there are PowerPC CPU’s that’s even better for AmigaOS, that we are not using, the NXP T2080 CPU has 8 cores and AltiVec.

and PaSemi CPU was too bad choice, sadly cut short, thanks to Apple.

@NutsAboutAmiga

Picking a cpu on price is good if you want to make a lower cost X5000 machine.
And the cpu was oke in 2014-'15.
But not releasing the Tabor after 7+ years kills the momentum.

@bennymee

The jury is still out as to whether it is possible to release the A1222 Plus beyond the initial 100.

@dirkzwager

Me too but at this point we've all had to go different routes; THEA500 Mini, doubling down on recapping/updating our Classics or going the Vampire/UnAmiga/Mister routes to name a few! I hope there is still room for the AmigaOne machines in the market but I'm growing doubtful especially if an ISA change is required!

Somewhere in PDF there should be place talking about snoop mechanism or what is required for the Cache Coherency, to work correct. but I don’t remember last time I looked at was 2 years ago.

Not only the small production runs but also the pricing of the cpu, that was $300+ and now $500+ for the 5020 ? I can not even find a place to buy them...

Take a look at the G5 Powermac benchmarks on Phoronix from 2017. The G5 is way behind and the cpu in the A1222 cpu is even much much slower.

The blog had been updated and it seems that the original A1222 Plus prototype Chinese factory is full until 2023! Additionally, the price could rise even though the first production run quantity of the A1222 Plus has been doubled to obtain the components at a competitive price! Bad news!

The quoting process continues!

@BigD

And the state of OS licensing remains in limbo, at least as far as we know. I think it's (past) time to give up on this.

I don't think Trevor has given up on Hyperion even though they've hardly played nice following his 'investment' in them! AmigaKit however are very unlikely to deal with them again hence they don't seem to be prepared to sell the Tabor anymore and A-Cube's help was sort out not that it sped anything up! The PowerPC laptop will be out before the A1222 Plus at this rate!

@BigD

AmigaKit has something like 5% to 20% of a OS..
ExecSG team has ~50% of OS.
And Hyperion has another 50% of OS.

Amiga Kit can not replace Hyperion at this point in time, there enhancement pack is muttering but sure run into other issues as well, when new stuff is replaced.
If they want to get something out into the market quick, they need OEM licenses from Hyperion.

Anyhow, if you exclude intuition and graphic library, you can maybe do some stuff from AUX / serial port, however. Is also suck not having workbench, there are whys around workbench, at least two options that’s available.

There are also parts of MorphOS that’s open source, and AROS, but it depends on the license.

Personally love this to be done correct, so does not feel or behave like it should not, also having 80% of OS will also suck from user point of view.
