So what is the verdict? Is the latest version 2.25 safe to install or not?

I just let AmiUpdate update itself on my A4000.
It crashed.
Once I'd deleted my original AmiUpdate from my SYS:Utilities/ drawer, though, and started the correct 4.1u6 one from SYS:System/AmiUpdate/, it worked fine.

I just let AmiUpdate update itself to v2.25 on the x1000, no crash this time. Just did the same on the Micro, it asks for a aximal assign, I just let it pick AmiUpdate for now, no crash after I let it update to v2.25 & re-start.

Rebooting the Micro wipes out the assign & crashes again, need to track that down, the x1000 is still good after a cold reboot, bah....

That funny assign was caused by getvideo.cfg, had an older version installed, so deleted it, no more assign requester, but still get a GR on the Micro with v2.25. Still looking....

@sundown

Thanks for this info. Although I think I'll still wait for the next update since my current version is working fine.

I presume the author knows about the problems.

I installed 2.25 on my uAOne and it crashed too. clicked on the rollback icon and that did not work either. As many other people have the same problem.. is there nobody testing this stuff before releasing it ? This tool should really work without crashing. Do I have to install OS4U6 again ? Or download AU from OS4Depot ?

@Beeblebrox

If Rollback doesn't work (strange for you as you mentioned that you have installed Update6 previously), just download Update6 again and copy the AmiUpdate executable.

Amiupdate 2.25 causes a GrimReaper, but by ignoring the DSI, it does not crash the system!
The system seems to be inactive for 30 seconds (just a ballpark figure), and Amiupdate is launched!

Regards,
Petrol.

@Beeblebrox

On some machines the DSI knocks out the Mouse and keyboard.

Why do you guys worry about v2.25 not working when v2.24 works just fine? Do you think something magical is missing?

You can open AmiUpdate prefs & turn off its update check on startup, if that bugs you.

@sundown

But then you will easily miss 2.26.

@All

More AmiUpdate woes. Ran it today, to find a new version is available (2.32), once installed it should do a soft-reboot on the system, but this does not occur. So I tried a manual soft-reboot and ran AmiUpdate again - where it behaves in exactly the same way. Something wrong here again!

@raumfahre
I had the same problem with both of my machines.
What I did was to extract the update.library from the 2.32 archive
stored in ram: and copy it to LIBS:.
Then Rebooted and ran the update again.
It worked to update the rest of the files once I used the 2.32 version of update .library.

@Spectre660

Good find.

I found v53.9 on my beta system, which would GR & v53.11 on my FC system which worked fine. I copied v53.11 to beta & no GR. I reported this on the beta mailing list, we'll see if it holds true for others & gets fixed.
