Is the idea to port existing open source projects, or is it to also get versions of some closed source software too.

@AmigaBlitter

Its an alright idea having a porting team, however money talks and you need something in place for people to invest in this idea. Kickstarter is one suggestion, but doesn't appeal to anyone outside of the Amiga-sphere.

May I suggest you check the link below, I'd be happy to design the theme of the site and host it for you at reduced 'Amiga-rates' if you can take care of the plug-in and the paypal side of the things.

Of course if you think this is a good idea... in the future you might be able to piggy-back on top of AmiBounty... I need to convince the AmiBounty team anyway... must check my emails as I've been sidetracked for a few weeks now - concentrating on Jack ( http://jackforamigaos.wordpress.com/2013/02/22/new-screenshots/ ).

Anyhow heres the link, Kickstarter and such like are referred to as Crowdfunding, and thanks to Wordpress and its array of plug-ins you can create your own.

Choosed the game compatible with the current MiniGL level. Other requiring updated Mesa library are in "freeze state"

You probably have already figured this out, but of course you can do f.ex.
Quote:
grep -r glCreateShader

in the source directory to see, if the code uses shaders. (of course this won't show, if there's support for both fixed function and shaders)

You can also grep for f.ex. glBindBuffer to see if the code uses VBO (Doesn't make it "no-go", but it can be rather demanding effort to make the code use vertex arrays instead, depending on how many places you find it in. I have done that for one game in the past, and that took quite a while...)

Actually, this could be expanded into a bigger "automated test system" that would tell, if the code has references to things that can make the porting harder or easier, f.ex. DirectX, OpenGL (shaders / fixed function), SDL, GTK, X11, OpenAL, alsa etc.

Of course you can get "false positives", when you f.ex. find references to both DirectX and OpenGL (if both are supported), but in that case, you can simply take a closer look. Only DirectX and no signs of OpenGL is of course a bad thing

I actually contacted the author regarding a possible MorphOS port long ago. He definitely wasn't againist it, but it turned out that the code was using Allegro, which was kind of a no go. Especially considering this was the first ever worthy title using it, I had encountered

I heard there were plans for a SDL rewrite, and thought I'd wait for it. Haven't heard back since then

There's also another remake, this one being open source (but in my opinion, worse than the one discussed)

@Jupp3

Thank you all for the suggestions.

Have to say that we have already contacted many developers and we have already many sources to port. For other reported possible game or software we'll give definitely a look.

Thank you
