The way I read it, is that Steven Sollie is happy that he as stoped abusing the name “Amiga”. And part about moving forward whit some cooperation can mean a lot of things. Last part about Steven Sollie that he hears a lot of talk but not a lot of results, sound to me that he also has douts.
He is just too polite, I think.
Yes if I where able to turn this tread in to toilet papier I do it, It just a lot of BS. Last edited by NutsAboutAmiga on 09-Jul-2013 at 05:02 PM.

Surely, a lot to be done:
- Improvement of x86 Linux to catch up with other distros - AROS Integration to advanced level - AROS development to fit hardware - PPC Linux port - advanced version, it is said with no AROS ...
Why not AROS Open Linux?

If I would him (or them) I would forget all that "Amiga OS4" Hyperion stuff and concentrate on AROS on X86 (and perhaps ARM) Last edited by OlafS25 on 09-Jul-2013 at 06:15 PM.

What's the odds that it's the value edition (E9.95)?
Mildly interesting that they (?) are offering it at all, but the initial offering prices are ridiculous (I'm sure Roberto will be chipping in soon with a "Look, we've lowered our prices" as per the ridiculous inital hardware prices). _________________ Troll - n., A disenfranchised former potential customer who remains interested enough to stay informed and express critical opinions. opp., the vast majority who voted silently with their feet. |

So for 115 dollars I can buy a Linux distribution with Amiga Forever that runs on X86 hardware? While for around 50 Euros I have the full Amiga Forever package? |
So far I do understand Linux distro costs 115$ anyway. It does include AF but likely ROMS and at best games. Videos are mentioned, but they are 2DVDs alone. Maybe if full AF package comes with Linux, but that is unclear. However, legal step to Amiga emulation and some contribution back (I do recall C-USA failed to do even that).

I'm still curious as to how they plan to make any money.
Their hardware is still overpriced. And if anyone wanted those particular PCs (or tablet) I'd think they'd be much better off buying retail or from Amazon directly, instead of a company most have never heard of before.
As for Linux OS4, I still have no idea why it's any better than Ubuntu or the million other flavors of Linux or why it should command a price at all. I suppose it's possible it may run better on PPC hardware than PPC Mint and such... maybe ... but that's hardly a large market.
Or is their entire business plan based on setting up AROS w/Linux, and then trying to sell that to Amiga people, with overpriced hardware? Of course AROS is free already, and that same plan was tried by CUSA (minus AROS), and it wasn't exactly a super success.

Seems to be learning from CUSA mistakes.
Amiga emulation at least is legal, will AROS be contributed back, remains to be seen. Hardware is not that overpriced.
Kindle Fire for example is 269$ and 299$ which is 30 and 50$ difference, that can be justified by OS4. On high end systems profit is probably higher.
Entire plan for selling is based on advanced (claimed - stable and supported) x86 Linux and AROS and AmigaForever seems to be options now, more like candy.

Any market seems to be better then no market That PPC Linux OS4 remains yet to be delivered. Past CUSA experience is here wrongly interpreted, so OS4 Team says no AROS there ... even there is PPC AROSLast edited by vox on 13-Jul-2013 at 05:41 PM. I am not sure if OS4 has anything to do with the Kindle Fire really. It should have Amazon's version of android on it.
As for hardware, I don't get why anyone in their right mind would buy hardware from them in the first place. You say only somewhat overpriced (I'd disagree), but they would have to be much cheaper than alternatives to make any real sense. I picked up the Fire 8.9" for $100 less than they are charging a couple of months ago ... and ended up returning it at that price (too much yellow tint to screen).
They do seem to have learned from CUSA, but not from their mistakes exactly. They are basically doing the same exact thing (without branding) but are being nicer about it. Last edited by Nameless on 13-Jul-2013 at 05:49 PM.
