exactly. it's also listed on the AOS website as a feature. and in the manuals sent out with every copy of the OS. it most certainly is presented as part and parcel of the operating system itself. if there is an issue or set of bugs we need to be aware of, i would think hyperion should issue an alert to current users.
JXFS is excellent for me -- so far. it's by far the fastest filesystem available and very much necessary given my huge video collection. i wouldn't want to have to divide my disks into partitions 128GB or less.
@ssolie/@HyperionMP
can we get an official ruling here?

| If its listed as a main feature of the OS then it is expected to work properly. This isnt a webcam driver or a hit and miss network adapter this is the filesystem and filesystems you cant just keep loosing data. And whats this filesystem based on? There are many filesystems that are reliable, feature rich and open source that you can port. Instead of reinventing the wheel why dont you go with standards so you can work on features that users and customers ultimately want.

Recovery tool(s) not working? Might not been updated if JXfileSystem isn't supported anymore, but it would be worth a shot after backup.

Yes I agree, it does not matter to me what file system is as long as it work.
The only issue is that AmigaOS has special file attributes, +S for script and +E for Executable.
Anyway for films it does not matter, ext4, riserfs might do the job as well, only difference is that this file systems have a recovery tools, if some thing goes bad, but there are none for JXFS.
I say stick to SFS2, it is a proven technology, until there are anything better out there. Last edited by NutsAboutAmiga on 12-Aug-2013 at 04:51 PM.

It would need to be ported to the AmigaDOS packet method and device API as well as protection bits. So for anything a huge job. |

| Sadly, this is why I shelved my Sam460EX 6+ months ago. I reported these HDD problems (no one could identify that my problems were related to JXFS - all the same symptoms though) many months ago. That, and all the trouble with AmiUpdates. It's just sitting up on a shelf out of my reach. May there's hope of getting my system stable after all!

I had a problem once. You have no choice than reformating the partition. |
I was afraid of that. I might just leave it for the moment in case someone needs further details for troubleshooting etc.

I had the same problem recently with a JXFS partition, the one that had all my internet browsers/tools etc on it. Nothing to do but reformat..... |
It seems to be only happening (errors) when I start OWB.

Oh I agree its a whole lot of work but from what Im understanding the only reliable FS that works and is stable is the one from the 80's and that has its limitations. They could limit the concerns of customers by telling them, "Hey its a new filesystem. It may break" but back to my original post they could very easily use the stable filesystem until they port over ext4, ZFS, ReiserFS, etc. Talk to Matthew over at DragonFLY BSD. He used to be an Amiga developer and now an open source guy he may have some insight. _________________ http://www.pc-opensystems.com |

I have been running with it for a while without any issues. My other partitions are just fine using JXFS. AmiUpdate runs smooth on my system and I have the A1SE.

It's obvious there are many more threads like this one:
File system switching and formatting
I wouldn't expect all these folks to post here, so I just offer it as additional example as to what is being discussed here.

I remember having these kinds of error messages years ago on A1-SE (and reported to the author) on JXFS sometimes. I powered the machine off usually and after powering it back on there was not any problems on the filesystem on the hard drive. Maybe some app is corrupting some memory which belongs to the FS. Of course there's always a chance of hardware problem. Last edited by Tomppeli on 12-Aug-2013 at 09:47 PM.

I haven't checked it again today but yesterday it was there even after having switched it off for a few times. It does seem to happen only when I start OWB. But yes, some issues just disappear in thin air.
