| Just a real quick question, dont know if this is a good poll question or not but anyway. What do you guys use your Amiga for? Is there a specific application that you just cant do without, is it just love of the platform and hardware. What do you use it for and why? _________________ http://www.pc-opensystems.com |

I use my AGA 1200 for:
Retro gaming (PC, Amiga, MAME, C64, Spectrum) Watching demos Playing music (CD's ripped as WAV files)
That's about it really, I don't use any kind of productivity software on it. |

I use mine to take up valuable space in my already cramped garage. These days it's easier to take a nostalgia trip via WinUAE rather than dragging out my antiques. |

Hardware hackery making/ fiddling & listening to music, drawing with Lightwave & SketchBlock, messing with programming, playing/testing games, demos, and endlessly trying to get my Workbenches set up just the way I like!
Oh of course for web browsing & Internet. Last edited by klx300r on 10-Sep-2013 at 12:54 PM.

| @RobertJDohnert While my 4 MorphOS machines are not Amigas, I count MorphOS as "amigalike" system, so:
1. Everyday webbrowsing, social sites, youtube etc. 2. Mail, communicators, IRC. 3. Music listening, net radio. 4. Webdevelopment. 5. C programming. 6. Audio processing, composing music. 7. Simple image processing, image editing (usually related to webdevelopment). 8. Reading, usually technical literature related to webdevelopment and programming, but sometimes also e-books. 9. Remote work on Windows machines (rdesktop). 10. Remote administration of Linux servers (ssh terminal). 11. Games.

| Typical everyday computer stuff really, web browsing is number one and I really wish we had a full internet experience on OS4, its close so its more annoying when you come across that odd bit of a site feature that doesn't quite work. Really hope we get more OWB or Timberwolf update. bit of photo editing, web development, documents, programming etc
But I think you may want to ask is why use an Amiga for these tasks, my main reason is to try and replicate the good times I use to have on a computer when being creative felt rewarding and easy to get to grips with, I dont really feel that way as much on some of the modern platforms, apart from maybe web apps, and google apps, example is when I first had PPaint that I think came with nearly every amiga I just had fun drawing simple silly little pictures at first and I would of been quite happy with it just offering me that (after all I was just a kid) but later on over time learned more about it impressive features sets and thanks to Amiga Format usually giving away newer and newer version with more and more features it felt like as I was growing up the program kind of grew up with me and started using some of its more advance features when I first messed around with a PC you can image my disappointment and amazement at how basic and bad ms paint was (and still is to this day). I know its no longer really relent due to fact you can simple download gimp or another set of free fully fled software but it just that feeling that Amiga power the user. the closest thing I come to that today is really programs like Hollywood Designer or on the pc SkechUp and Flash 8 were pretty neat easy to pick up and get you interested in learning the program and go deeper this is what I like about most Amiga software and its OS, most software is just not like that today. _________________ AmigaNG, YouTube, LeaveReality Studio |

I try and crash my X1000 as quickly as possible, which sadly is fairly easy at times
Mostly I use:
Magellan ibrowse muiowb charon yam picshow mplayer cygnused stormc5ed amigaamp picture_overview amiblitz3 imagefx adpro (if magellan hasn't been run, it seems to kill adpro) various database programs...

A bit of everything really, depending on which amiga system Im using.
Video, music, programming, graphics, games, etc. Most of my computer interests are creative focused, so software like blitz, imagine, lightwave, ppaint, dpaint, imagefx, and a bunch of others are used pretty frequently.
"Tuning" my OS is also something I do a lot. As is emulation of some retro gaming systems (despite not often being as accurate as modern/current emulators, there's just something about some old amiga specific emus that appeals to me. Perhaps due to the "rawness" of the amiga apis which doesnt distort the "feel" of the emulators. |

Pretty much everything, surfing ther web, documents, listening to music, editing photos, drawing, e-mail, MSN, playing games, viewing artwork and pictures, IRC, burning CD's and whatever takes my fancy.
I do have a MacBook Pro as back up for anything that I can't do but rarely use it nowadays as my trusty SAM460 does pretty much everthing I want to do _________________ SAM 460 with 2GB or RAM, 1000GB HD, 4 port SATA, DVDRW drive and Radeon HD 4650 GFX card. |

I use my X1000 for everything that doesn't require a PC, such as stupid java login to the bank, online purchases which again requires the stupid java bankID, or connecting my Nokia Lumia phone and stuff like that.
General surfing, email, video watching and editing (a shame the X1000 still can't do HD due to lack of overlay though), manage photos, play music, and of course coding whenever I get a small chance for that. _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

| I use mine for some programming, hardware stuff and playing my music, and generally for anything else that can reasonably be done on them. I use various other platforms for other tasks as they suit, but only when those tasks can't reasonably be done under AOS or MOS. _________________ RobTheNerd.com | InstallerGen | SMBMounter | Atoms-X |

Very important. Such a nice feeling to work with the OS itself after working with the others all day.Last edited by Daedalus on 10-Sep-2013 at 04:07 PM.
