So at least it's not some mythical corporate overlord in charge of it.
All money has value because of 'belief'. I don't believe in the kindness of corporate entities that can print money on a whim.

Well I am not into Bitcoin directly..
We founded TELOS as proof of stake solution www.telosgreen.org and BitcoinSubsidium (POW) for low power devices. Both parts of Transcendence project originally started to be aimed at low power amigas. So far we need to get the curve back to Amiga :D --> first thing will be CryptoMages

@phoenixkonsole

I won't touch it until it is regulated, but the lack of regulation is exactly what appeals to the users of crypocurrencies so it seems people will do well from it, but others could lose big time.

BBC report on 'Cryptoqueen scam' - OneCoin

BusinessInsider reports biggest Cryptocurrency scams of 2019

Unless you are fully sure of the tech, the risks or can mine at a low cost, it just seems all too risky to me. I almost put savings into IceSave when they were offering better interest rates than the UK banks, I didn't but many did and look what happened there. UK investors (including businesses and local government) lost out and had a hard job getting anything back.

IceSave Saga - Wikipedia

If it sounds too good to be true it usually is.

This is crypto realities.

And this is what you need to know, to avoid situation where you buy such coins, you need to monitor all icos, also all news, also use crypto bots like this

Wow, blast from the past. Anyone clever enough to pick up some bitcoin in 2013 and hang on to it must be very happy today.

Meaningful mining is pretty much in the realm of current high end gpu's or purpose build chips. Sounds out of reach for anything Amiga based unless your next gen Amiga also runs linux and has great gpu's.

There are a couple of coins still CPU mined that might be of interest for someone wanting to learn or experiment with crypto currency clients on Amiga. First is Monero, which would have little or no return on lowend machines imho. Very tough to mine. Second, Hodlcoin. Hodl is much easier to mine, but nearly worthless at this time. I think if I were interesting in learning crypto on Amiga with a chance of actually acquiring a few cpu coins for successful testing, hodl would probably be where I might start as a programmer.

oh look, hodl was up 7% today (nov 9, 2017) lol.
