Hi folks, I've just released a preview version of MindSpace 2 - a complete rewrite of the original MindMap/UML diagram thingy for OS4.

The preview version doesn't do a lot (nearly all functionality is switched off for the momnent), but if a few folk could have a look and let me know if there are any issues with the interface etc, that would be appreciated.

Quite a lot of work has gone into allowing the user complete freedom setting up the toolbars, but if I've missed out any key features etc, please let me know.

MindSpace 2 v001

@yoodoo2

Screenshot looks good, I don;t have time to try it just at the moment, maybe after the weekend.

SUPERB !!

We need a good vector drawing tool!

How flexible your app will be, can it stretch to electricity & pipeing design etc... (a bit like Vision on windoze) ??

Super nice! Looking forward to the real program!

I've only noticed one minor bug. Otherwise, the adding and removing work as I presume intended. I have a few suggestions that might make it more user friendly. (Roughly ordered in priority order.)

#1 Bug: All shape buttons aren't deselected when cleared.
1. Press Fill toolbasrs
2. Press Clear Toolbars

Not all shape buttons are deselected, even though they've disapperared from the actual toolbar. See image for which buttons still are selected.
This also happens when adding these five shape buttons manually, and then clearing.

Feature requests:
1. Allow to clear only selected toolbar, instead of clearing all three at once.

2. Allow to fill only selected toolbar, instead of all at once.

3. There is no feedback when all button positions in a toolbar have been filled. Now you simply can't add the buttons. Perhaps a Beep(), and a screen bar message would be sufficient to alert the user of a full toolbar?

4. Show visually which toolbar is being edited, by changing the row's background.

5. Use radio buttons to choose toolbar to edit.

6. Disable Page number/Zoom level check box, when they've already been added to a toolbar.

7. Fill Toolbar shouldn't clear all added buttons at first, but just add the rest of the buttons. Otherwise, rename it to "Clear and fill toolbar"

8. Is it possible to click a button on the actual toolbars, in order to select where new buttons should be inserted? I.e. add buttons 1,2,3; click button 1, then add button 4, resulting in the final order 1,4,2,3.

Other than that: good work! Keep it up!

@jaokim

Mind you, found another bug:

#2 No button image in Toolbar editor
1. Add new document (either from menu, or button)
2. Now open up the Toolbar editor.
All the button images are gone!

#3 Zoom/Page nr boxes visible, although removed from toolbar
1. Edit Toolbar and remove Zoom and Page nr
2. Add new document (either from menu, or button)
The Zoom/Page nr input textbox magically appears, though without any functionality (i.e. you can't click it)

#4 The help bubbles sometime take focus instead fo button
1. Hover mouse over button to make bubble help appear
2. Without moving mouse, try to click -- you'll click the bubble help box, and not the button.
Are you not using the Amiga in-built hints?

Looking forward! I already liked MindSpace 1 very much, it was one of my first AmigaOS 4.x software registrations...

@jaokim

Many thanks - clear, specific feedback. Exactly what I was hoping for :)

Unfortunately, I've had to implement my own tooltips - the built -in hintinfo popups won't work with toolbar windows.

I'll get on to those bugs straight away. I'm a bit concerned by #2 as I think I should have spotted that one!

@yoodoo2

I got a DSI crash with memory pointer CCCCCCCC which means the same list node was released twice. It happens when doing this, create a new project and then close its window.

Ouch, nearly a year gone by.

Anyway, another preview release of MindSpace 2 can be downloaded here. Again, it's not a fully featured version, yet, but please feel free to play around with the interface and report any bugs, suggested improvements, features etc.

From the readme:
MindSpace 2 Version 0.01d : 16/8/2014
---------------------------------------------------

Requirements: OS4.1. In addition, libpng.so, libcairo.so and libfreetype.so.17 needs to be in SOBJS:

MindSpace 2 is a complete rewrite of the original MindSpace UML/Diagram/Vector Drawing thingy written for Amiga OS4.
The long term plan is to improve, refine and extend the features of the original program.

Version 0.01d allows the user to create multiple diagrams with multiple pages.
Multiple windows/views of each diagram can be opened, at different magnifications and viewing different pages.
Opening multiple windows uses a lot of graphics memory - SAM440 users may want to limit the number of windows in use or switch off compositing

At the moment, only the rectangle tool can be used to draw objects on the page (resize handles not yet added).
Objects can be raised/lowered, moved and resized using the toolbar.

Rendering uses Cairo, but is quite slow at the moment.
There is as of yet no hardware acceleration or optimisation eg the whole bitmap is redrawn, not just damaged areas.

MindSpace 2 v0.02

Another little work-in-progress update to MindSpace 2 (vector drawing thingy - full version of original MindSpace here).

This WIP version is still a long way from complete and useable, but please feel free to have a play, make comments and suggestions etc..

Read the readme to see requirements, what is done and what is not...

A new WIP version will be uploaded soon for the usual people to play with. Feedback always welcome.

In the meantime - a couple of new screenshots

And the

Looks great. Will be the final version released as freeware, or it will be under registration as before?

You read my mind!

Unlike your program there's not mch space in it.

I do wonder, how would your program deal with repetitions? I have a design in mind (where else?) where I need lines to repeat down the page. So, assuming a rectangle of particular dimensions, can MindSpace plot a line every two mils down the page in that area? That is without me manually putting them all in.

And here's the WIP update of MindSpace 2 v0.04

Requirements are listed in the readme.txt file.

All feedback welcome.

Not quite sure yet. This A1SE is getting a bit old and rusty and could do with being replaced eventually :) At the speed I work at, it'll have probably become a proper relic by the time MS2 is actually done. In the meantime, MindSpace 1 is on OS4depot.

When I add patterns to MindSpace 2, it will. For the moment, you could try the following in MindSpace 1:
- Open up the Preferences->Program Settings window, in the Interface tab, set Grid Size to 2mm and tick Show Grid and Snap To Grid
- use the line tool to draw half a dozen lines of a reasonable length
- highlight all the lines and Group them together (RAmiga+G)
- create a UserMSO from the UserMSO menu
- you should see a new shape added to the U tab in the shapes toolbar
- use this as a template shape for your lines
- you could create UserMSOs with (eg) 5, 10, 20 lines etc
- the bank of UserMsos can be saved and reloaded into other diagrams
- MindSpace 1 will export as png, svg and pdf if you need the files in another program

@yoodoo2

Thanks four your detailed instructions. I can see we are on the same page.

It's funny to think that these ideas have been sitting in my head for over 20 years since I was in school and I found all the Amiga software I tried to be too basic to input my ideas into easily. I didn't know my old graphical ideas were so advanced!
