@cheesegrate

I was told (by OS4 beta tester) Hyperion implemented it on top of MUI 3.9. It doesn't have complete feature set but the most important changes and some external classes like Aboutbox.mcc which is not part of MUI 4 per se.

@itix

no version of mui is implemented by hyperion. It is, and always was, a 3rd party contribution.

@xeron

Hyperion is paying license fees to include MUI on the OS 4.

That´s are great news, but at the moment it´s not possible for me to download it via AMIupdate. I have problems with the onboard ethernet chip and I´m contact with ACube to solve it. So is there a possibility to download MUI4 from a another source?

@Cass

Go to line 886 and delete the parenthesis, save and try again.

Should work.

This is all pretty cool, but where can one download it? AmiUpdate is not pulling it!

Haven't installed YAM 2.9 myself yet, but the install script has a few bugs. You should be able to open the script in NotePad & fix some, also read this thread.

@WeiXing3D

In the server tab, you should have 'update.amigaos.net', no quotes, & the second box checked.

But is it legal in _that_ way? Are they entiteled to make such a MUI release? This is a MUI4 _fork_. It is quite different to MUI4 MorphOS (which is the original MUI).
I think OS4 may use MUI and they may release patches for MUI OS4, but such a release..?

@Zylesea

both here and on amiga.org there are plenty of folks -- all MOS users, by the way -- speculating on how this MUI4 isn't the same as that MUI4 and is it legal and did stefan agree and does hyperion have the rights to this and ....

how about just asking thore or jens instead of all of the guessing and innuendo. since they wrote it they would actually, you know, know.

MUI4 OS4 is based on a rather early MUI 4 source code. MUI4 is controlled by the MorphOS team these days. I massively doubt Jens L. has access to the MorphOS internals.

But beside that I really congratulate to the achivement. MUI4 OS4 is no doubt a big step forward and also good for the community. It will make porting programs beteen the different platforms easier which is good for us all.

From a readme file...

It was ported throughout the
development of AmigaOS4 by Thore Böckelmann and Jens Maus and added
as a contribution to the AmigaOS4 operating system with full permissions
of Stefan Stuntz.

You are right that questioning legality should not be anyone businness but stunzi. And I'm with you if you think that this kind of speculation should be left out of these threads.

But saying that this MUI isn't the same as the MorphOS MUI4 is not speculation. Just a look at the copyrights will confirm it. MUI4 for MorphOS is version 4.2, copyrighed 2012 by Stefan Stuntz, while MUI4 for AmigaOS 4.1 is 4.0 copyrighted 2006 by Stefan Stuntz. The only thing that is likely to be speculated at this point is whether "this" MUI4 has been built on top of MUI3 or on top of the code of an early beta of MUI4. As a first test, could you tell us if the Test button in the MUI4 prefs is actually made redundant by the fact that the prefs changes are applied in real time to the system or the single application (depending on which prefs have been opened)? This is actually way more interesting than debating penis sizes or the likes, and would be a very nice feature if really added to AmigaOS 4.1.

Kind regards,
Andrea

i don't mind discussing these things, i'd just ask that people discuss known facts rather than speculate, that's all. it's not like thore doesn't answer questions via email.

wow, you're right! i don't need to use the test button any more. altering button styles, the scrollbar, etc., just happens in the background as i select the options in the preferences tool. way, way cool. before we had to use the test button. OK, so i guess that feature has been carried over into the new AOS4 MUI4.
