OS3.9 unarchiving problem with UnARC

I downloaded the following files:

http://aminet.net/package/dev/mui/MCC_TheBar-26.15
http://aminet.net/package/dev/mui/MCC_TextEditor-15.45
http://aminet.net/package/dev/mui/MCC_NList-0.119
http://aminet.net/package/dev/mui/MCC_BetterString-11.28

using "lha x filename destination", I can decompress them without any problems.

But when using UnARC or Dopus 5.90, I keep getting errors like the following:

Unable to open file 'MCC_Betterstring/'...

And it gives this error message on every drawer it is going to create.

Is there a bugfixed version of the necessary file so that this does not happen?

@Ancalimon

I have an A4000 clean AmigaOS 3.9 with boing bags 1&2 here for back testing.

I started unarc and choose your example of MCC_betterstring.

My versions of both might be different than yours, but I don't see the issue.

@number6

There in an empty file without a name inside every drawer on those archives here.

I wonder what is the reason of that on my configuration.

It even happens here with my WinUAE Amikit installation.

I think I used lha to unarchive boingbag1 and 2 because I knew about OS3.9's problem.

Maybe it's related with something that's been installed with boingbag3+4 or maybe some patch I'm using...

@Ancalimon

Sorry, I wouldn't know. I just use boingbag 1&2.

If you don't get that answer here, I'm sure Amiga.org or EAB can answer.

I found no other Amigaworld search hits for "unarc" and "unable" (keyword for the error message) in classic threads.

@ancalimon

If this was an AmigaOS4 thread then xad would held up as a possible cause, so have you updated that recently?

Not sure if there are new 68k builds or not.

@broadblues

Created a new os3.9 installation with boingbag1&2. It was not showing the same problem on WinUAE. Will troubleshoot and compare it to my old A1200 os3.9 installation.

The the thing is it also happens with Amikit. Although might have installed files from boingbag3&4 and also Amikit's updated files..

If it turns out to be an issue with XAD, fortunately the source is available in the xad_lha archive on OS4Depot.

This sounds like it's the same problem I encountered when writing XADFS.

From XADFS changelog:
Quote:

- Added a workaround for lha archives where directories don't have the
XADFIF_DIRECTORY flag set but instead have a slash at the end of
xfi_FileName to signify that they are directories.

It is really a bug in the LHA client of XAD IMHO but it can be pretty easily worked around in programs if known about.

I was mistaken. The problem even happens with a fresh OS3.9 installation plus bb1 and bb2 on both WinUAE and real Amiga.

How it does not happen on your system is at the moment a mystery :)

Glad I'm not the only one experiencing this! Had similar issues with my install in WinUAE a while back. I gave up in the end and went back to the command line. I had heard that installing various boing bags would fix it, but I never seemed to get anything useful that way.

@evilFrog

I have tried with bb1+bb2.
I have tried with bb3+bb4.

I'm afraid it does not matter and there's a bug inside XAD. I wonder if anyone might be able to fix this finally :)

@Ancalimon

Would you post your version for unarc please?

Mine is from boingbag 2 with a file size of 43092 if that helps.

V45.13 - Thursday January 31, 2002.

The same since it's a fresh OS3.9 installation plus boingbag1 and 2.

The only extras I have are:

Phase5 680x0 libraries (plus 68060.library replaced by Cosmos's patched 68060.library)
ata3.driver for FastATA MK4 IDE adapter.

@Ancalimon

ok. just to cover all bases, my A4000 is an 040, so I'm using the 020 version of XAD.
All the clients are dated Novermber 30, 2003.
Since I don't see "lha", I suppose it's using LZX.

All comments appreciated until we solve this. heh.

Adding the note from XAD V12.1a in case this relates:

Quote:
Changes to version 12.1:
- Fixed external clients, which did wrong CPU checks, 68020 and 68060
archives only

The LHA client is built into xadmaster.library so you won't see it as a separate file in your system. LZX is a completely different archive format so won't do anything for LHA files.

I have updated xadmaster.library to 12.1 using the 020 version from aminet (plugged the hdd to winuae and deleted the 680x0 libraries just in case.

The problem is still here.

EDIT: I have found this: http://aros-exec.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=87857

But it's happening on AmigaOS here as well. :)

@Ancalimon

Understood.

All I am telling you is what works on the A4000 040.

There's always the odd chance an install of other software overwrote critical files. But you're testing from a clean install of AmigaOS V3.9/boing bags 1/2 with nothing else?

Bah. Obviously you installed XAD V12.1a, but I meant any other program.

Yes nothing else is installed.

I wonder if it's related with the filesytem used and its settings.
