I'd like more feedback, otherwise I'm going to start thinking I'm the only one this works for. heh.

I don't know what else to try. I'll try reinstalling OS3.9. This time I'll test before each boingbag update.
It only happens with those new four mcc archives and Dopus5.90 at the moment. Last edited by Ancalimon on 24-Jul-2014 at 10:57 PM.

My lha file for Betterstring is not the same. The A4000 is not connected to the net. Perhaps it's the file, but I have no way to check.
Reading old threads shows this to be an issue for a long time, though, so unless someone says otherwise, I would say those 4 files aren't the root of the issue.

While I'm pulling at straws here, I'll repeat one other known issue:
The red CDs are BAD. The pink ones were fixed.

I used lha and not UnARC to decompress boingbags. |

FYI, here I noticed the problem with the YAM archives, I think I've tried 2.9, 2.8 and 2.8p1. I wonder if there's a common utility that's creating all these archives in the first place... _________________ "Knowledge is power. Power corrupts. Study hard, be evil." |

If it turns out to be an issue with XAD, fortunately the source is available in the xad_lha archive on OS4Depot. |
IIRC that client needs a newer version of xadmaster than currently available for 68k. However it should be possible and relatively easy to build the latest xadmaster for 68k, and that will already contain the relevant LhA fix. I'm amazed that after this much time nobody has done it already.

Then why does it work just fine for me and others? I've read enough threads to indicate I'm not the only one who has it working.

Here are some fixes and additions I made to the LhA and Zip clients. They contain the earlier fixes I mentioned, and some new. This should be all the changes:
LhA: * Now handles directory entries that have a filename of length 0 (as mentioned earlier). * Fixed protection parsing to use XAD_GETPROTFILEINFO instead of XAD_GETPROTAMIGA in preparation for a later change. * Commented out the filename mangling code.

Where are the sources for the latest xadmaster library? The xad_lha sources directory has a readme file that points to the libxad CVS repo but that's old. |

As I wrote before the problem is that the LHA client does not set the XADFIF_DIRECTORY flag on directory entries. There is a work around for this in my XADFileSystem as well as I think in the latest (AmigaOS 4.x) version of UnArc. It doesn't happen with all LHA archives since directories are usually not stored as separate entries in the archive, instead they are only created implicitly when extracting files. |

The new client uses xadmaster v13 functions, so will not work with xadmaster v12.
As to why LhA works for you and not others, it may just be down to the archive. Obviously it's not completely broken or it wouldn't be working for anyone!

Understood.
It was not clear to me in the first post from salass00 that we were talking about some variation in archives. His 2nd post made that clear.
I'd like to link to one more post made repeatedly on Amiga.org by Thomas too, since the posts are older and it might help to know if the info is correct currently.
The only problem UnArc has is with files with spaces in their names.

I'm not sure what I'm helping with - all those fixes are already present in my externalised client AFAIK.
The XADFIF_DIRECTORY thing looks like it should be fixed too, as the official 1.14 (which is what mine is based on) seems to have the fix to treat 0 length files as directories, and is setting that flag, although I have no idea how to check that.
As I say, my client won't work with v12 of xadmaster, it needs v13, which means somebody needs to build that for 68k (in which case the fixed LhA client will be present anyway).
btw, this is Dag's xadmaster code: https://code.google.com/p/theunarchiver/source/browse/#hg%2FXADMaster I don't know how portable or compatible it is with the Amiga version. I have dealt with Dag in the past and he is a nice chap

That is the original problem I built my client to fix. It only happens with archives using header level 1 or above. The default for newer versions of LhA is header level 1, although it used to be 0.

If you don't mind I'd like to be more specific about what happened. After a mistake on my part, I mastered a DVD with the 4 MCC files, to take to the A4000, since it's not networked in any way.
MCC_BetterString-11.28 - I used unarc from my plain vanilla AmigaOS 3.9 install with boing bag 1&2 installed. XAD is version 12.1, not the "a" version.
Unarc listed the contents after selecting the archive. I choose ram: to unpack. I received the message "Failed to open file 'MCC_BetterString/'" from the system. Upon hitting "ok" when this popped up a few times the unarchiving completed without incident. I checked the directories contents with a disk directory utility and the contents appear to all be there. "Developer" "Libs" Locale" etc. Again, I can't very well cut&paste that here due the non-networked machine, but this seems to NOT be your experience.
Quote:
There in an empty file without a name inside every drawer on those archives here. |
Or was that only about your result with Dopus and not unarc direct?
One additional thing you can try, since it uses XAD: http://aminet.net/search?query=voodoo-x
The error messages are more enlightening and all in a scrollable list for review.

That's definitely the directory problem salass00 mentioned.
Fixed in newer (OS4) UnArc, and possibly in the newer LhA client (although I have no idea how to check if that is the case or not - if it isn't and somebody can give me raw compilable code showing the problem I'll try to fix it for my external OS4 client).
