| @Raffaele:
Can you describe what you want a repair program to be able to do? Since all modern filesystems (SFS, jXFS, etc) have their own self-repair facilities, what can the user do with a repair program?

Just because original developers does not release recover tools with regularity because too busy?
(ICEFS is an exception as the developer is very quick to find and fix errors and update recover tool also thanks to faithful betatesters)._________________ "When the Amiga came out, everyone [at Apple] was scared as hell." They dont. SFS can recover from aborted write or defrag operation (crash/reboot) but if an error occurs it cant do anything. It could be due to filesystem error or system trashing random memory or maybe someone deleted wrong file by mistake and must undelete it. Sometimes filesystem is so badly messed up it cant be repaired but you can recover your files from it. _________________ Amiga Developer Amiga 500, Efika, Mac Mini and PowerBook |

For one thing, given the broad spectrum of such program, the user would be able to repair a volume on a classic Amiga using a 64-bit tool. AFAIK there are no 64-bit tools here.
For modern systems, it would benefit having JXFS support, as once this breaks you are stuffed. It would also be good having a program like this on the X1000 that can do repairs.
So I see lots of usefulness in such a tool. Surprised you had to ask.
Though I suspect it would be more of a salvage than a repair tool. Better than nothing. |

@tonyw, the user's point is valid; there are no existing tools for classic Amiga volumes with such broad functionality in 64-bit format. Modern systems could greatly benefit from JXFS support and similar programs like this one on X1000 to prevent data loss during drive failures or corruption issues.
Regarding your point, while it may serve more as a salvage tool than an actual repair tool for modern systems due to the nature of file system compatibility with older hardware, its existence could still provide critical backups and partial recovery options in desperate situations. |
