It's a long time since I wrote the Zune GUI for diskimage.device but IIRC the MUIM_List_CreateImage method had to be called from within MUIM_Setup or it wouldn't work.
|
MUIM_List_CreateImage does pre-layout to objects so it must be called in or after MUIM_Setup but before MUIM_Show occurs. Typically bitmap is loaded to memory and converted to display's native format.

That is correct.
Although it can be sometimes important to users. I used to customize my desktop a lot, including MUI, but these days I cant bother anymore and I just use whatever default settings are.Last edited by itix on 09-Nov-2014 at 06:51 PM. I prefer Reaction. For exactly the same reason.
Edit: I should point out my use of Reaction (or, more accurately, non-use of MUI) is a hangover from the OS3 days. I used to detest MUI because it was so slow and resource-hungry, to the point I ditched Virus Checker when it changed from a great minimalist GadTools GUI to using MUI (I switched to VirusX IIRC).
Of course I don't refuse to run MUI these days, and actually never have for proper applications, but something running in the background needs to be light on resources (it's the same reason I wouldn't use a Qt-based email notifier).Last edited by Chris_Y on 09-Nov-2014 at 09:21 PM.

Nonsense, have a look at AmiArcadia's GUI for example. It is 100% ReAction and is very full-featured.
As to some users not liking the default look of ReAction (looks fine to me), that can be easily customized via Preferences. Last edited by Minuous on 10-Nov-2014 at 04:33 AM. Last edited by Minuous on 10-Nov-2014 at 04:33 AM.

As a user, I agree with smf ...

My system runs AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition Update 1. Default look and feel is ReAction based, but that does not stop me from using MUI programs.
For example, I have installed 6 web browsers, some use Reaction, some use MUI.
ReAction... AWeb, NetSurf, Origyn Web Browser (OWB)
MUI... IBrowse, Odyssey Web Browser
TimberWolf ... not sure. I think it has a ReAction window.
As a programmer, I'm not far enough along to make any recommendations.
So far, most of my programs are in ARexx. In the past I used KCON console windows to communicate with the user.
I have been experimenting with MicroRexx, RxBGUI and RxMUI.
I have also downloaded ProAction GUI server for script writers, but I'm still reading up on this one.

Back in the day, my Amiga 2000HD did not have an accelerator card, so I used exclusively software for the 68000 CPU.
IBrowse did not run on my machine, so I did not have much use for MUI.
I used AWeb instead, because it worked fine.
Of course, that all changed when I purchased my PPC system. It had plenty of horsepower. At that time, my main web browser was IBrowse and I added AWeb later.

It's ReAction for me for the same reason as that one fellow uses MUI: Quote:
but just because I don't know how to code Reaction and that I am too lazy to relearn a GUI toolkit under AmigaOS 4 | It sums it up pretty well, me thinks.
My first encounters with ReAction were cumbersome with all those tags to apply. I simply could not get my head around it and it looked as if MUI would trump ReAction in numbers of tags available per gadget, probably due to its high degree of custimisabillity. And I found those tagnames quite looooong sometimes, mostly actually.
But even for ReAction the number of tags was slowly growing, so my main grudge against MUI became less and less valid over time. What I found in the meantime, was that, looking at the code of various programs, for a given gadget near-identical sets of tags were appied. This made me develope a set of macro's for every gadget that dramatically reduces the number of tags to use in the code. Never used those ReAction macro's supplied with the SDK, as I found them quite hopeless and even counterproductive.
Come to think of it, I haven't coded anything, for any OS for that matter, since early 2017, simply because my gear is boxed and stored awaiting better times.
As I said; it's ReAction for me!
Happy coding
OldFart

MUI for me. I prefer to configurability both global and local, local is handy for devs that make 'poor' choices with colours or fonts etc.
I am visually impared so being able to enlarge fonts within a single program is vital unlike reaction where unless the program lets you change the font you have to change font prefs, messing up the whole display, run the program and font prefs again when you've finished.
