@pampers

Nice! X1950 was best of its kind. However, I would expect better result in MorphOS (eg. in comparison to R300, R400 cards).

I don't think we have the right benchmarks to come to that conclusion yet.

You'd need to see the 9800 compared with the X1950 on the same machine. It should be possible on an AGP equipped Mac. You can also run the same test under Mac OS and see if the performance ratio between the two card is similar under both operating systems.

Yes.

@pavlor

I'm just testing :) For me (looking at the other results) it's still not bad.

@pampers

i'm looking forward to seeing the SAM460 running MOS. on my peg2, 3D games under MOS totally blow away AOS4. they should scream on the SAM with a good graphics card.

@tlosm

Pampers has sam 460 with Morphos 3.8 beta. Pci-e radeons for PowerMac G5 don't have AtomBios and require more work so no support for them in MorphOS (3.8). Full support for Sam (including 3D ) is the main priority of M-Team now.

maybe because you are cpu limited.
So 1,15 GHz could be yet enough to have a very good framerate with X1950, but not with modern gfx card.
of course, if you put in your system a high-end video card you to put a high-end or medium-end CPU

The Warp3D API hasn't been touched for over 10 years while the 3D API for MorphOS has been further optimised over time.

A-EON are planning to update Warp3D now that they have ownership of it. I hope optimising it for speed is high on the list of priorities.

Are morpho's 3d system uses VBOs and hardware TCL ? Speed looks pretty decent, and probably can't be archived on such hw just with code optimization and without VBOs/TCL.

1600x1200 - 28.4 FPS

I hope math is not your source of income.

Well, the difference indeed gets smaller if you narrow down the scope of measurement. Those figures looks identical to one of your other number series of which I based one of my calculations on, the bottom part of post #14, but with the 640x480 (37.8 FPS) measurement removed and 1600x1200 (28.4 FPS) added.

Well, the difference between 28.4 and 37.8 is 33,1%, so...

I'm not going to pursue this any further, just wanted to point out that your statement "it has the same FPS no matter the resolution" doesn't exactly hold water when the difference is as high as 33%. And frankly, nothing about these numbers (no aspect whatsoever) is anything to be proud of, and they certainly aren't an argument to purchase a HD7000/R7 card...

Got it.. Thanks for answer anyway..
Btw, what version of quake3 you use for test ? Some optmized version from bigfoot ?

@any-technical-guy-from-mos-team
Found in the feature list of mos3.x release, that there indeed was added support of VBO. Just curious is the driver for radeonhd (that one which used on sam460 by morphos) has for now VBO support ? And maybe tinygl have hardware TCL support on top of that already too ?

25-30 FPS in 1600x1200 means good playability of Quake3 class games...

If I were Hans, the fact that they exist at all is something of which I'd be greatly proud.
Seem to be working well enough to support most software thrown at them (from what I've read) and apparently fast enough on first release to be very useable.
He also seems to release regular updates, and offer support, so I expect those numbers will go up in time.

Give credit where it's due.

Edit: replied to wrong post, sorry if you're reading this threaded.

@Boot_WB

A-EON plans further public updates very soon - there are some updates being beta tested right now that should boost performance even more.

We are also engaging with software developers to help them use the new drivers in the games to the fullest.

TinyGL indeed supports TCL, but Quake III at least doesn't support VBOs. Also there was no VBO support in MorphOS. So you can't explain the difference with a different way of rendering.
