@all

Upon recommendation from moderator Darrin, I'm copying the relevant posts about the new C64 projects into a new thread. This doesn't cover everything that is going on, so much as just consolidating what has already been posted into a more on-topic forum.

Apologies in advance if any included links no longer function and additions/corrections are welcome.

To qualify for AW front page, none of the following directly concerns the later licensors or licensees of Commodore atm. Should any of them become involved, moderator will decide appropriate forum to move any such information concerning their involvement.

I see that CommodoreUSA Facebook is reporting:

Quote:
One of our members has sent us a message recently to say that he is now the proud owner of these injection molds which was used to create the original C64 casing!

Original Ebay link to the sale:

Found this

ongoing thread same topic

Interesting to note that after much discussion of the new cases, a poster mentions:

Quote:
it's good to know that we can purchase the exterior of the C64C but I think we need the interior as well.

After which someone write to Jens Schoenfeld and gets a response:

Quote:
Hi,
utsource will list *every* chip as "available". It doesn't mean that they really are available. I'm open to real addresses/phone numbers of non-brokers (i.e. people who have actual stock and aren't afraid to talk to me).
thanks,

After receiving a cease & desist from C=Holdings B.V., the case makers have made some statements, as the thread has grown.

There has been talk of buying stickers as opposed to engraving, information on the other molds, etc.

Sales/pledges for these cases are very high relatively speaking, and generating more interest each passing day. I see Jim Drew posting as well.

Entire thread worth a look

Apparently the idea of cases was a good one, based on the info coming from the C64C case folks.

It seems as if just the other day they had 500 pledges. Now they seem to have near 500 pledges for EACH of 3 colors.

Congratulations to those involved.

Oh well...

About the Commodore key - the plan is to use "C=" for this key. We worked hard to make the price for the set as cheap as possible without quality loss. So we decide to spent the money for good basic materials and not for lawyers or trademark licence.

The above thread is kinda the sequel to the original thread about the cases.

For those following the C64c cases, production is reported to be starting today.

And users don't think there will be lawsuits after 20 years after no one doing anything with the I.P. As long as someone owns it and as long as there are lawyers, you can't do anything with the I.P. or trademark.

That sounds like it could turn out to be a very expensive mistake. There are doors in life, that are best left shut.

@Chuckt&damocles

His response to general legal concerns expressed in the thread:

Quote:
From the legal advise we got before we started this project, a design copyright only lasts for 10 years from the date of creation. Commodore actually never copyrighted any design of any product. Commodore used the a design patent for all of the designs they used. because the protection lasted for 14 years from the date in was granted.

We made the mistake of using the name and from our correspondence with the owner of the Commodore, C= Holdings, they make no claims to the design or the molds. We are free to do anything we like as long as we do not use the name Commodore to promote or sell the products.
