| Did you know that you can copy tracks right out of iTunes (that you might have bought?) and play them directly in AmigaAMP?
Did you know that you can extract the audio track from HD youtube videos (mp4) as m4a without reencoding and play them directly in AmigaAMP? This also works from flv where the codec could be aac (m4a) or mp3.
Put these two on a button in DirOpus for easy YouTube to audio conversion: AppDir:ffmpeg -i "{fu}" -vn -acodec copy "{fu}.m4a" AppDir:ffmpeg -i "{fu}" -vn -acodec copy "{fu}.mp3"

That's nice! I'll add that to Odyssey (I suppose?). _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft. |

Somehow AAC and m4a stopped working here with AmigaAMP 3.21
I can't really tell since when but I remember I was playing AAC files with 3.15.
I found some old CDs laying around and planned to use ADRipper (Version 1.2, default settings for AAC) to convert them to AAC (m4a container) but AmigaAMP can not play them. And TuneNet crashes badly (Enhancer Software version) with AAC files.
AmigaOne X1000 and AmigaOS 4.1.8 (FEUpd1)
MPlayer and Emotions do play the files correctly |

ADRipper's AAC encoder never supported muxing into the M4A container - I should know because I developed the plugin. What you get is just plain AAC-encoded file (not M4A), which can be played in WinAmp when saved with an ADTS header (see the plugin prefs), but sadly not in AmigaAmp.
I tried to use ffmpeg to mux the ADRipper AAC output into M4A but for some reason AmigaAmp won't play the resulting file. This is why I never extended the plugin with the M4A muxing option because libffmpeg will obviously not help, and I don't know of any other free muxing libraries. I asked about this on OS4coding.net but got no reply._________________ The Rear Window blog

Have you asked @Tomsoniq to implement that feature into AmigaAmp? |

No because I don't have any use for AAC files - I made the plugin just for the fun of it during my testing of the VisualOn AAC encoder library. Plus, I know Tom is very busy and he wouldn't be thrilled at a request to support a rather rare format.
My problem is not AmigaAMP not supporting AAC files. My problem is the inability to produce an AAC-encoded M4A file (which AmigaAMP already supports, and which is far more common as an audio file format).

If you just need a container for the AAC data you can use libmkv to write as MKA.
I use libmkv in SRec. |

Thanks for the tip. Basically, I was after M4A because that is what AmigaAMP supports. But I may have a go at an MKA plugin at some point.
