It's been a bit quiet from me lately, but now I've actually dusted of the old AWT code, and got it to run!

See the blog for details: http://jamiga2.blogspot.com/2015/10/mind-sweeped.html

Hopefully I'll have something updated on AmiUpdate too... but it's not there yet.

Hi @jaokim!

It's been a long time and I hope that you're doing well! Did you have a chance to continue working on JAmiga?

Best!

Joakim works in the JVM Sustaining Engineering group at Oracle.
He started at Oracle in 2020, and has previously worked as a Java developer within telecom and speech recognition.

He is here

JAVA!

Java, my friends, is the virtual machine equivalent of what PPC is as an architecture: a relic from back when a certain alternate future seemed possible, but ultimately it wasn't. Just like PPC couldn't compete with X86, Java didn't become that universal and most importantly open VM it wanted to be.

Java, oh friends of mine, is the language equivalent of what DB2 is as a database: dated, obsolete, limited, but ALAS! adopted early and widely as part of so many backends that now it just HAS to be maintained and kept alive.

Amigans really seem to get a kick out of fiddling with corpses and agonizing stuff: in that sense, the otherwise execrable MORGUEsoft seems to have a point.

Javascript, on the other hand...

Seems that abuse points doesn't work anymore. Could you close you account and leave? Let us hobby what ever we want' without you being here?

@utri007

My antidemocratic friend utri007,
could you please tell me what is wrong with my post?

I simply expressed my opinion on the topic, and provided a link to an alternative resource.

Where is the abuse for which I should be assigned "abuse points"?
For what reason should I "delete my account"?

Certain that your answer will be clear and to the point,
your friend always,

MEGA RJ MICAL The Undeletable

I concur. It's nothing personal against anyone who likes the language; to each his own. But as a working programmer I'm forced to deal with it now and then, which is the only reason I care one way or the other. I'd not be sorry to see this trend continue.

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

JVM is being used to virtualize and improve performance on a number of languages. I would love to see Graal be our Java VM, if we ever get a completed one.

You elicit far more face-palms than laughs. I don't laugh. I much prefer the humor of Blazemonger, a humorist far far superior to you. I thought there was an admin that some time back announced your agreement to stop this nonsense.

@LarsB

Friend LarsB,

no criticism was directed to Jaokim, whose work I appreciate but I consider being on a path that future-proof, cross-platform development should abstain from taking.

When I criticize the person whose nickname starts with letter T, I am given my tiny contribute to reestablish the cosmic balance between bad and good taste.

@Bison

Friend Bison,

good news, thanks for the link.
And of course I agree, to each his own: the developer's choice of language is perfectly fine, would have been fine even if he chose Cobol. But for the "greater good", I'd argue that's a bad choice.

@billt

Friend billt,

thanks for expressing your preference, although I'll have to notify you that there's no stand up comedy contest going on, so I am afraid your vote so carefully cast, will be ignored & forgotten.

The admin announcing "my" agreement to stop the nonsense was referring to the guy who cloned me with what he thought would appear to be a mockery of the mocker, but ultimately ended up being a flood of annoyance and excess.

Speaking of which, I'd be glad to receive a ban or to see my account deleted:
you would then finally have a precedent for someone being banned without having violated any of the terms of conduct.

(Whereas I have been receiving death threats and crude and pathetically misspelt insults to my lineage through PMs from frustrated users who can hold nothing against me but their own inadequacy to societAAAAAH I BORED MY OWN SELF BYE

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

Surely the moronic religious cult like attitude of many in the community shouldn't be a surprise?
You did something other than blindly praise; you applied thought and opinion.
Obviously you should be stoned to death.

@fishy_fis

Friend fishy_fis,

the day we'll stop jumping on our chairs and dropping our monocles and we'll just accept obtuseness as the norm, that day will be a tragic day indeed.

Not a surprise (the enthusiastic comments to the abominations in the "image gallery" alone, are like a neon skull and crossbones warning sign), but let it be so, pretend surprise, and never miss a chance to condemn this plague.

Never miss a chance to wonder at the mystery of how the machine that more than any other embodied creativity, freedom and forward thinking became the monolith around which monkeys bash human femurs.

LET THE STONING BEGIN, BANISH ME MY FRIENDS, MAKE MEGA A MARTYR

MRJM!
