I saw from your development diary that you're now working daily to this project

Wings was a fun game, loads of atmosphere. The one thing I didn't like was the way it would snap you into that other view right when you were in a dog fight. Fun though.

Does anyone remember Red Baron by Dynamix? I think it was realistic to a fault. With all the realism turned on the planes were a challenge to fly and it took real skill to not die before you get to be an ace. That has to be my favorite flight sim for the Amiga. It is a shame though that realistic stuff seems to put a lot of people off. I just wish there were a co-op where you and a buddy could fly missions together. Also, I think the game actually played better on the Amiga version than it did on the PC.

@nzv58l,
Birds of Prey. Operation Stealth and Gunship 2000 Are my favorites. Fighter Duel Pro and Megafortress deserve honorable mention.

@Darrin
Thanks

@kyle
Yes, the last week or so I had enough time to work at it every day.
But not the whole day It's some hours every day.

@eliyahu
Thanks! Glad that somebody actually reads (and likes) it

The blog is a great little read. It's interesting to learn about the some of the features like you're implementing. The ragdoll mode sounds like something you could use in future 2D games for interactive scenery and other functions.

Hey nice work so far. I shot you a small donation - can't afford the whole game at the moment - Christmas bills and all that.

Keep up the good work! Hopefully you get some reusable code out of the work you are doing on Wings.

@gregthecanuck
Thanks a lot, that's highly appreciated and won't be forgotten!
Yes, the framework becomes better and better with every game title.

@rob
Thanks!
Ah, no, I didn't kick myself because of that bug. I fabricated much worse things in the past (and certainly will continue to do so)

@Daytona675x

Until WinUAE can run AOS4.x games like yours I wont be ordering Wings for example, espesially since I already bout the Windows version.

Or if, down the road, FPGA powered A1200 is supported (whenever these accelerators are done).

I already own several of your games, but mostly cause you got IOS/Windows versions ;)

Intresting blog btw!

Fair enough! The Amiga ports already contain some improvements over the original PC version though
(but let's be honest: on the other hand some, especially graphical, compromises have to be made for the Amiga ports, of course)

68k support, bei it native or FPGA or emulated, won't happen.

I don't develop for iOS anymore. I already canceled my developer account. Apple's policy (and hard- and software policy too) just sucks IMHO (please lets not start to discuss that ) and since all my current customers prefer Android or Windows Mobile anyway in the rare case they really want something for mobiles : Done with that.
Regarding Windows version: as always a Windows version of the Amiga port exists as a side-product of the porting process. Maybe I can convince Cinemaware to put this on the CD too. Of course that build looks and feels identical to the Amiga versions.

Interesting blog btw!

Thanks! For german readers: I just kept my promise and made it bilingual, you can switch to german by clicking on the coresponding icon located at the top-right of the page.

Cheers,
Daniel

@OlafS25

Even if there was an up to date C++ compiler for 68k (>= 4.2.x), the game would still require 3D acceleration, and a CPU faster than the fastest 060 out there. I know you'll say WinUAE has those, but what's the point? There's already an internal native windows build of the game, so why would he put in a lot of work to have an identical version running inside an emulator on Windows or Linux?

@OlafS25

Well, in all fairness Im likely to buy most of Daniels Windows games (i like his design philosophy).
With Wings he fell a bit between two chairs.
Many (most?) of us, AOS4 user or not, already aquired the Windows version.
So im sitting on the fence until he complete Tower57 which I supported thru Kickstarter.

why then using AmigaOS or MorphOS at all when already owning Windows or Linux?

I did not critisize him... the decisions are probpably long done and he uses his own framework for development that certainly not supports 68k. So I assume he would need to invest lots of additional work for supporting 68k. But general to rule it out is wrong in my view. Amiga market should start to act as market again, up to now it seems more to depend on personal preferences.

Aye, I also think there is a decent number of sales to be made from wb3.x.
But I do understand if the extra workload cant be justified.
Hes a coding machine, but even he gotta have limits....?

Are you doing this on purpose? Here's my question in plain terms: what is the appeal of running Wings Remastered inside WinUAE/FS-UAE vs running an identical version on the same machine under Windows/OS X/Linux?

@BSzili

You do it because you like to do it...

FPGAs are getting faster and faster, current Vampire 2 generation is only the beginning. Again... what is the appeal to use AmigaOS or MorphOS when already owning a better supported OS? You did not answer that too. I personal will only support projects that bring on what I am interested in. I am only interested in 68k and see no sense in NG (except Aros 68k) so no interest to buy it.
