@iggy

you use doc format or the new xml format?

I think MS Office and Libre Office use different xml definitions unfortunately

Word 97-2003 format is still used (and supported by MS applications). MS Office 97 works well on Windows 95 (and under DosBox).

So? World moved on to xml based MS office formats and you really can't ask everybody to re-send you or publish documents in old MS 97-2003 format.

I really have no clue what are you trying to say. That we should ignore possibility to port LibreOffice and use web-office services, AmiCygnix apps or 20+ years old office suite under emulation?

Some countries are too much MS format dependent - eg. civil service and academy sphere in the Czech Republic, country I live and work right now.

Ask? Most people send me their documents in this very format! Of course there are exceptions (like Apple pages documents nobody here was able read...).

Of course not. My point is: Where MS format compatibility is paramount, only MS applications offer 100 % solution.

It isn't completely compatible.

I said "compatible enough" and I mean more compatible than you suggest.

BTW Microsoft support ODF on MAC and iOS in MS Office 2016. Who will first wrote "It is not compatible enough?"

"Is Libre Office being ported by the guys who did Timberwolf?"

Yes, it is the same guys...

"Libre Office Status Update

Thomas Frieden, the developer porting Libre Office to AmigaOS 4, has also has made excellent progress.
Although Libre Office is planned as a long term project, Thomas has already ported approximate 75% of the code.
Once this process is finished the next stage is to build the first binarys."

It actually makes me worry much more than compatibility with MS office. Timberwolf was failure, but I can't blame solely Friedens but also curators of the bounty.

@Kicko

What is the status of Timberwolf?
Is anyone working on it?

The reason I ask is that if work continues it offers some hope.

OK, so it seems obvious that the brothers make big promises, take on monumental tasks, and are glacially slow at delivering.

BUT, if once released each package is maintained and updated....

After a number of requests, the source code for Timberwolf was made available in October. If anyone has worked on it since they have not said.

Any new news?

I am more interested on OCTAMED , if there no progress than we surely can help/speedup the porting. I like to see octamed on AROS since I don't have os4 and I can help porting to aros..

@Rudei

I'd love to see OctaMED for OS4 but if it ever happens I'll be utterly astonished.

IIRC someone wrote (Trixie?) that Octamed was coded in 68k assembly.
That being said if it use the OS it should work under OS4/Morphos

No, but it contains 68K assembly parts.

In late 1990s I was in touch with a guy who was working on OctaMED V2. He said that the original source code was messy and assembler-ridden, and although he was able to produce an alpha version of sorts, it never materialized as a releasable product. It was simply too much work, even for a person with audio-software programming experience.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: A-EON should stop buying old software sources without having a clue what's in store. The fact that a program was hip twenty years ago does not mean it can easily be adapted to contemporary standards.
