indeed. i'm looking forward to when these become available for sale so i am no longer restricted by NDA to discuss my X5000 experience.

here's a hint: it's by far the most enjoyable computer i've used since the 1980s.

So, may I ask, what computers have you used since the 1980s? :P

@marko

let's see... i've owned a commodore 64, macintosh SE/30, macintosh classic, macintosh IIfx, macintosh LC II, macintosh quadra 660AV, power macintosh 6100/66 DOS compatible, power macintosh G3, powerbook 165c, powerbook 5300c, powerbook G3 (pismo), sun ultra 1, sun ultra 60, sun ultra 24, SAM440ep-flex, and a pegasos2. i've also used a variety of IBM and lenovo thinkpads running windows and linux, POWER4 and POWER5 workstations running AIX, and IBM z10, z196, z114, zEC12, z13, and z13s mainframe systems running z/OS, z/VM, z/Linux, and z/VSE at work.

i've loved most of 'em, but i just really like my X5000; for me it's the best "fun" purposes. this in no way is to suggest others will feel similarly -- just me. it's been a blast. the quadra 660AV definitely is a strong second, though.

to be honest. i actually must ask myself this question, how enjoyable my computer experience was along the road with the different subsequent platforms. and i must admit, many if not all of which i have had to do, have something to offer in return. despite the shortcomigs from contemporary perspective. sinclair spectrum, amiga, different pcs i have been using since then. personally i like them all as long as they deliver functionality that entertains me, that is, usually beyond just trying to get the system to run correctly. and in this respect, guess what, the pc is a clear winner as of today. :P

edit: ah i see. a lot of apple hardware. yes. it can be disappointing, i have noticed it. and the unix/linux workstations as well if one is not into that stuff. to be honest i still use linux for sole (amiga) development purpose under a windows vm. i wouldnt run it native.

@OlafS25

Regarding pricing for the time being and until A-eon advise differently, I think I would prefer to go off the details from that official A-eon advert posted in a published magazine rather than some internet forum with vague pricing band with no source to back up their claim.

Pricing was officially published. But it was a long time ago, so things could indeed have changed. However, I doubt any changes would be very dramatic...

@TRIPOS

Well the £1699.00 price on the advert at todays exchange rate will mean €1,919.00 so quite a bit below the price suggested by a1k.org

@outrun1978

The price depends on what hardware options you have installed. For example, if the graphics card is an R7 290 rather than a lower spec card it will add cost to the price depending on what the customer wants in their built to order X5000. Similarly larger hard disks and more memory will cost more or any software bundles supplied with it.
