Frustration, that's the word, and also abandoned.
That's how I feel, I have long been trying to find some graphics card of the 7xxx series that works in my Sam440. No, all other series work correctly, but just the only valid for new drivers and probably future programs do not work. And that's very frustrating.
I don't know if the fault is ACube (if it still exists, for years no signs of life), for not to update the UBoot, as was done with the 460.
Or worse, of A-Eon, who has just made new drivers for 7xxx, so the others will stay behind in everything that comes.
Who guarantees me that when buying a X5000, not the same thing happen in a couple of years?

Finally, frustrated and abandoned, so I am, I would not have to say (as they sang Led Zeppelin) "babe, I'm gonna leave you."

@ribdevil

You are not asking the right people.

Moreover, if your subject line reads "frustration", how many people that can potentially help you will actually read your post?

Contact an Amiga dealer like:

@Hyperionmp

"You are not asking the right people."

I don't asking nothing, I asked at right people at right moment ( ACube and A-EON ).

I'm waiting the answer from ACube. And A-Eon says, one year ago, " other people are making the drivers".

I'm only showing my "bad feelings". Only that.

ACube do their best, but after all they are only humans.

They may be not able to do drivers to something as extra rare as current generation Radeon card on pci.

Well, i have similar problem.

My Sam440ep seems that doesn't support a radeon hd card :(.

Well, maybe a good setup can be done with a PCI-E riser card, but informations on this subject are fragmentary. At the moment Sam440ep users are cutted off from the reign of W3D nova and OpenGL ES 2.

@ribdevil

You want HD 7000 card for SAM440?

When these boards were released back in 2008 (flex) nobody expected support for anything beyond Radeon 9250. Be content with what you have or sell it, there is no need for frustration.

Next step in investigating the Sam440ep-flex+pci to pcie adapter+ Radeon HD 7000 issue would be to somehow convince someone with a Sam460ex/cr to test an adapter and Radeon HD 7000 series card with the Sam460ex/cr pci slot.

@AmigaBlitter

I test various Radeon HD with a PCI to PCIe adapter :

HD 5450 : Works fine
HD 5770 : Works fine
HD 6570 : Works fine
HD 6850 : Works fine

HD 7750 : Shows UBoot and loads the kickstar, then hangs and screen in black.
HD 7770 : three diferents models . Same fault.
HD 7850 : Same fault.
HD R9 270 : Same fault.

So, The problem is the UBoot ( ACube).
And if the new drivers for Warp 3D and Warp3DNova are only for thie SI chipset, all the sam440 users are out of the game (A-EON)

@pavlor

"You want HD 7000 card for SAM440? "
The answer is yes, cause is the road A-EON choose.

@spectre660

If the same thing happens in the sam460 / cr, then the problem is greater.

Good to hear.

Btw, i have the Sam440ep mini, not the flex. Could one of these adapters work with my Sam440ep (with integrated M9)?

If yes i can order an adapter very soon, cause i have a a spare 6570 radeon (sapphire).

@ribdevil

I assume that the Uboot initialization for pci on the Sam440ep-flex and the Sam460ex/cr are similar. if so then the pci adapter combo should also not work on the Sam460ex .

@AmigaBlitter

My MSI R9 280 card has a toggle switch for either Hybrid/UEFI or legacy BIOS. If there was someone in the UK (not too far from the south west) with a Sam440, PCI to PCIe card and a PCIe flexi riser I'd be happy to travel in order to test my card and find out if the Sam will recognise it with the legacy BIOS.

I have the full complement of RadeonHD 2.x, Warp3D SI and Warp3D Nova, so if it boots we can fully test all features. I'll ask Matthew permission to install the drivers and if it works maybe we can wangle free drivers since it will likely result in more sales of the drivers.

For more info on the Hybrid BIOS I've linked MSI's page.

I have a Radeon R7 265 in my Sam460 and it works fine.

It also works fine with my A1222 and X5000

Nice card for all models

@SinanG

He is talking about a 440 with a pci slot. ;)

But I have to say: every RadeonHD 5x00, 6x00 or 7x00 6xor Voodoo 2/3/5K worked without any problems in my Sam460. Great work A-Eon / Acube !

@all

Has somebody looked into creating a custom PCI to PCI Express with a fpga/plc e.g. ?

That could benefit Mediator / Eyetech Amigaone / Sam440 owners.

Just out of curiosity, why does it HAVE to be that series of cards?
Your interface limits performance anyway.
An earlier card would not perform that significantly worse.
There are a lot of cards that will work with that board, so why push it?

Results of the next step test with a Sam460ex, PCI to PCIe adapter and Radeon HD7750 .
Also Radeon HD 6570 .
Sam460ex and PCIE to PCIe adapter do not seem to be compatible .

@bennymee

There's no need to make such hardware, you just need a PEX 8112 PCI to PCIe card like this.

Nobody has tested the A1XE with a Radeon SI based card so we don't yet know if the BIOS is compatible or not. The Mediator may have a better chance of working with one because of the way it operates but it's probably pointless due to all the bottlenecks in the old hardware. I'd still love to know if it works though.

Everything from the X1xx0 to HD6xx0 is only supported in 2D on Amiga OS. The Warp3D drivers for 5000/6000 series cards never materialised and my have been silently cancelled for all we know. A-EON said they won't develop Warp3D Nova drivers for anything older than the Southern Islands based cards. They said support is available for third parties wishing to develop their own drivers for older cards but that doesn't guarantee that anyone will.

Why do think it's UBoot? From what you say UBoot is able to initialise the card, displays Kickstart loading and then screen is black.

To me this points to Kickstart. After Kickstart is put together UBoot is thrown away. The OS4 kernel takes over.

Now, I take it you have updated the RadeonHD drivers with the extra driver?

Do you have a serial port on your Sam and a debug cable set up? At this point it would help to know of any debug output from OS4 kernel. This is the sort of thing I've seen happen before, on an X1000 at least, when the graphics driver failed.

It could be UBoot. It could be Kickstart. But it helps to see what is failing.

@Hypex

I did some testing about 2 year ago with some special debug Radeon HD driver versions.
The conclusion about possible U-Boot issues was based on the fact that same Radeon HD7750 card works with my Sam460ex and the fact that the Radeon HD driver reached a certain point on the Sam440ep-flex .
