LOL
@wawa: I would assume we are seeing a debug kernel in action? At 0:22 in the video you can see kernel.debug being loaded.
The icon drawing is too slow to be anything else but in heavy debug mode. I believe the point being made in this video is that the machine is actually booting to workbench.
I would really like to know the strategy being employed to enable OS4 to run on this board. Are they literally going through the entire system and changing any FPU code to somehow be compatible with this chip? In other words doing a specially compiled build? My suggestion [ brilliant, of course ] was to patch the ELF binaries at load-time. Will see what the Hyp crew comes up with.
Cheers!

The 'Start Classic Amiga OS Version' button on the early startup screen - does that run UAE then? I never noticed that on the X1000 early startup menu. _________________ Sam |

It's actually A-EON's version of Uboot which is tailored to look like the early startup screen. A1222 and X5000 have this version of Uboot. |

| From the youtube video I assume no DMA is enabled and GFX is via frame buffer (DIU or Radeon).
Before I buy my next Amiga toy (upgrade from SAM440ep), I want to see some AOS4 real use cases benchmarked between SAM & A1222 & X5000.
btw. does A1222 fan run at stable rpm or does it change according to CPU temp or user setting? (silent running is nice to have) Last edited by KimmoK on 24-Nov-2016 at 08:47 AM. Last edited by KimmoK on 24-Nov-2016 at 08:43 AM.

Thanks for a hint.
>with sam 440 vs Tabor is like compare 020 14mhz with 030 50mhz
And I imagine the difference between RadeonM9(SAM) and RadeonHD(if on tabor) is compareable with difference between AGA and CV64(3D).
Would seem worth upgrade, once AOS4 is out for it.
(I imagine, the speed difference on HDD/SSD data handling between SAM and Tabor is non existing in real use. A4000ideHDD vs SAMsataHDD speed difference is like classicFDD vs classicHDD.)
I've tried to use LibreOffice on 1.3Ghz quad core Baytrail HW. Impress is barely usable. Google slides is OK (not fast) to use on the same HW. So, for someone to plan to take full use of the coming LibreOffice port, I might recommend X5000 as the minimum, but let's see how it become optimized for AOS4...
@tlosm Have you used LibreOffice on X5000&Linux? Last edited by KimmoK on 24-Nov-2016 at 11:20 AM. Last edited by KimmoK on 24-Nov-2016 at 11:19 AM.

Dudes, it's a pre-release.
It's already fast. Just think about when all the debug code will be removed and when everything will be released for the final version.
And just think about that only one core is used atm. Last edited by AmigaBlitter on 24-Nov-2016 at 11:32 AM.

It needs to be out before 2018-19. Mid 2017 would be acceptable. If its booting now surely it cant take another 2 years before consumer version is out. _________________ A1200 ACA1232 128MB Indivison MkIICr Elbox empty Power Tower RPi3 Emulating C64 ZX Atari PS BBC Wii with Amiga emulation Vampire v4 SA |

I completly agree, hopefully they can re use X5000 (driver) code to speed up things. But as, imho, the X5000 was more beta at Amiwest 2015 then the Tabor is now, and the X5000 is starting to appear the coming weeks, 2018 is more plausible. Last edited by bennymee on 24-Nov-2016 at 12:53 PM.

No! A1222 must arrive before 2018... else I will not win chocolate.
GFX redraw was fast (windows open in good speed) and resolution is too high for DIU, so I assume slow HDD access plays role there. |

I thought that A1222 would sell this year. _________________ Sometimes we give people a lot of credit just because they’re writing nice sentences even if it isn’t adding up to much. |

it's nice to see development on the A1222 at last underway, but even more importantly, that hyperion is reaching out to customers again via their blog, youtube, facebook, etc. connecting with customers and communicating is exactly what so many of us have asked for, and it's important to show our appreciation that they are starting to listen. thank you!
