Have the original Commodore developers ever tried getting together and re-boot, no pun intended, the Amiga magic in someway? Have any of them ever expressed interest in making the next generation (AAA Chipset) Amigas?

The fact that Dave Haynie's A3000 AA+prototype boards are now in private collectors hands should answer your question. And now the boards aren't thought to be working presently. The one in the video below is missing the custom chips!

Also, regarding the Ranger chipset;

Dale Luck is in possession of a Ranger system prototype, but it's unknown in what state it is.

This is how the Haynie Garage sell went down in 2011;

Haynie's Garage Sale - Amiga.org Archive

No one from the Amiga/Commodore teams are going back to this now that the prototypes are gone. Also. the designs would be obsolete and the components impossible to source 20 years plus on!

The Vampire boards are the only way forward for the Classic Amiga though the ACA range of accelerators are also great. The real breakthrough will come if the Vampire can implement AGA and AGA+ screen modes on OCS Amigas
