@AmigaBlitter

The problem is that T2080, price has gone up, it might be that this CPU is no longer being produced in large quantiles, this might be wherey well become really expensive laptop. Already the crowd funding has pretty expensive, anyway can only hope some of experience gained is not lost, maybe design can be reused for different cpu’s as well.

@Rose

Where did you took those prices from?

I see a different price range on mouser, it seems much lower to me

Where are you looking? I see them for around US$300. And Avnet has them in 44 quantity for less than $250 at 1.8GHz.

What do you mean no audio? What do you mean no NVMe?

If Amiga will support audio output via HDMI, you will be able to hear sound using an M.2 GPU board such as these https://www.innodisk.com/en/products/embedded-peripheral/display

These cards mount a SM768 chip, an evolution of the SM502 mounted on the Sam460ex

@virgolamobile

Otherwise great plan but SM768 doesn't have audio.

OK, there wasn't anything linking to that, in a topic about a laptop, so I didn't have reason to know you were talking about something else.

The T1040/T1042 is capable of i2s (iis) audio connection on TDM port. Perhaps he will make use of that somehow.

@Rose

Well, if a SM768 cause problems, you may plug a M.2 to PCIe adapter and then use standard GPU board, these adaptors are quite cheap, see for example this one https://www.aliexpress.com/i/32866587414.html

I want to point that this is an open source hardware project.

https://gitlab.com/power-progress-community/oshw-powerpc-django

It can be modified, or copied to be used as a base of a new project... Indeed, I'm pretty sure the developer will be happy to have some help.

@geen_naam

Taking into consideration that the number of potential buyers is quite limited, I very much in doubt that any potentially interested company would ever guarantee that a project will see the day of light.

Please, have a look at the KiCad material on GitLab that Manuel alone prepared and consider to team up with him. A core team, instead of a one man show, would certainly give a better chance of survival to this project, and hopefully, you'll reach a point of development able to motivate a potential hardware maker.

Even if you have divergent ideas on what the final motherboard could be in terms of shape or type, position and number of ports, you may work together on common issues, and then work separately on your separate branch.

To be honest, I've already offered to design a powerpc mainboard for free when I returned to the amiga two months ago. After a reply that my offer was very generous and the question if I was willing to sign a NDA, it went silent.

Welcome to wonderful world of Amiga where promises are plentiful but actually delivering as rare as hens teeth. Also worth of remembering that your average Amiga business nowdays makes middle school bake sales look highly professional.

I don't know which organization are you referring but Power Progress Community is not requesting to sign any NDA. The association is focused on producing open source hardware and you can find in its Gitlab schematics of the notebook project and also for this new low cost board design.

If you want to collaborate in a PowerPC hardware project you can contact the association and check if you like what you see there.

I would love to play my part in the community. But not without any perspective that it will actually see the day of light including OS4 support.

I hadn't seen that, and cannot find that now. I'm curious what you had in mind, and if you are still interested and willing in that. It seems you have opinions how to do better than the Django idea, and if offering for free, it would be great if you were already doing so for yourself. :)
