This Notebook certainly will not sell in masses

Who knows, Rabbit Hole Computing aren't even attempting to sell any outside of their local Amiga club it seems. I guess it is a lot of work installing all the custom software?

Job done then

Why should people in Europe trust this company to ship their product half way across the world and to provide good after sales support from far far away when they don't know whether they are selling an Acer or Asus?!

They need to sign a deal with AmigaKit or they are losing sales every day.

Please don't get silly

They have two models only: once you have installed it a single time, you just have to create a drive image and a couple of scripts to do so.

It looks as if an ALICE laptop will be available on exhibit at the CLASS

Great but are they actually going to sign some distribution / support deals with AmigaKit to get this into Europe? Waste of a good product, like Amithlon all over again

@BigD

I donno.

All I wanted to do was to let the forum members be aware that if anyone is interested in looking at a ALICE laptop, and so happen to be in Southern California (or vicinities) in April, there is an opportunity.

Well, whoever is going on a day trip to simply 'look' at some PC laptop commodity Acer (or is Asus can't be sure with those White Rabbit peeps ) hardware with custom software and installation could at least ask a few questions!

1) HOW WE CAN GET HOLD OF THESE MACHINES IN EUROPE with proper support and customer service with out shipping it half way across the world if it fails under waranty or there's a software setup problem

2) How is it possible to produce / equip a machine that equates to the first Amiga laptop ever available that runs Amiga software (albeit under emulation) out of the box but not sell them like hot potatoes across the world?

Computers for the masses not the classes!

You can get 2 generations newer model with similar specs for $350 and Amikit with rabbit hole for €30. Considering that they are selling it for $650 and unpacking pics showed that it was a refurbished unit I just can't see masses paying their asking price.

Sorry BigD I cannot answer that - I have no connections at all with Rabbit Hole.

I reckon that motto related to Commodore computers - not Amiga.

I don't expect you to answer the question but it would be good if someone ASKED THE QUESTION AT THE EXHIBITION!!!

That's what the A500 was all about. Pitty the Americans didn't appreciate it and bought NES systems instead

Getting closer, It's quote from Tramiel who continued same ideology with his next company.

Pity the Brits didn't appreciate it and bought more Sinclair/ZX Spectrums and Acorns than Amigas.

As discussed previously, Americans are far more susceptible to advertising and marketing. Since the A500 wasn't pushed in Toys R' Us etc but rather computer shops and most Mom and Pops didn't understand the concept of a 'home computer' rather than just a work computer at home not many (relatively speaking) Americans upgraded their C64s to A500s! This is scandalous because that is a natural upgrade path.

IBM PCs were a bad joke for home computing in the 80s and early 90s but since Pop used them at work and they hadn't seen a Superbowl advert advocating the Amiga as an alternative they bought PeeCees! It's C='s fault but it also highlights the difference between Europe and USA. In Europe we were more price sensitive and we initially bought more Atari STs than Amigas and some people didn't upgrade their Spectrums and Amstrads until 1990 but the benefits of the Amiga over the PC for home use was never in doubt despite limited advertising. Nintendo obliterated Commodore in the US and only the Video Toaster let the Big Box Amigas hold onto any significant market there.
