| Hi all
I was having a look in a branch of Maplin's today at mechanical keyboards and came across this one which I am quite interested in buying:
http://gaming.logitech.com/en-gb/product/g610-orion-brown-keyboard
Obviously I will be covering those horrid windows keys with some stick on Amiga Keys, but I am more concerned about if this keyboard may have problems with repeated keys which is an issue which can affect some keyboards if using the latest U-Boot found on the x5000 or even the Sam 460.
Is anyone using the Logitech G610 as a keyboard, or can they also recommend any mechanical keyboards which work well with the X5000 or Sam 460??

There is a problem in the latest u-boot with the Amigaone (chicony) keyboards and a few other usb keyboards it seems where you get instances of repeated keys. This solves itself sometimes with a quick unplug/replug back in but it seems to happen quite a bit.
My wireless microsoft 800 keyboard works fine and doesnt suffer this problem, but as i am looking for a mechanical one to replace it and it would be nice if i could know which ones reliably work with the x5000 and sam 460 running the latest U-boot.
The Microsoft 800 is nice keyboard but its a bit of a chore to type away for long stretches......

Its all a matter of the key switches. My personal preference is for keyboards with some tactile feedback. For desktops, a keyboard with good Cherry key switches is nice.
And I'm very fond of my Lenovo ThinkPad's keyboard. |

On my X1000 and Tabor, I use a Rosewill RK9000BR. The BR is Brown cherry switches. The keyboard is very solid, even heavy because of the steel plate that the switches mount through. ALL of the keys are cherry, unlike some that use cheaper switches for the function and num pad.
The one big problem with the 9000BR is the very thin traces where the USB connector is soldered down. I have repaired mine by hand. Since this problem got some exposure, Rosewill came out with the "V2" that should correct it properly.
If you don't mind a rather HEAVY keyboard (I rather like it) this is a very good keyboard at an excellent price. I use a mechanical USB switch to "jump" my keyboard and mouse between three computers, none of the computers have had any problem with it.

thanks for the tip, i like the rectangular look of your one and also of the Ducky DK2108 mentioned by Kyle.
Think i am being swayed by the Ducky if am honest, i have a think for blue neon lights so time to get the Amazon Prime free offer to do its dirty work! _________________ Amigaone X5000/20 4GB Radeon RX 550 Polaris 12 AmigaOS4.1 Final Edition Update 1 Amiga 1200 Workbench 3.1.4 Amiga CD32 |

That model is the "Ducky Zero"...? Have you changed any settings of it from the factory defaults?
I tested a Ducky One with X5000, and it has the repeted key problem, and occasionally keys are just not responsive, so that you have to press them two or three times before it has effect.

so far the Ducky Zero DK2180SZ works ok, not noticed any issues just yet with the repeated keys. I did have to swap the Alt keys around with the Windows/Function keys. I have placed some Amiga stickers over the Windows/Function keys, but swapping these around mean that i can now do CTRL+left Amiga+right Amiga for a soft reset
Initial thoughts are its quite similar to the original A1200 keyboard in feel and sound, so yes i can see why this brand is quite popular amongst the fellow Amiga community.

Using AllKeys and the reboot command, you can map any key combination to a Soft Reset. The PS/2 keyboard I use with my A1XE has a Power button, so I use Ctrl-Power to rest._________________ --------------- AmigaOne X5000 P5020 2Ghz, OS 4.1 AmigaOne XE G4 800mhz, OS 4.1 A1200T 40Mhz 68040, OS 3.9 |

Let us know if you run into any of those reported "repeated keys", or "failure to recognize keystrokes the first, second, or third time they are pressed", problems, while being used on an X5000, or SAM460 with UBoot.
Personally, I would have gone with the Rosewill keyboard, that has ALL mechanical keys, like Lyle suggested. It also seems to be cheaper, as NewEgg is selling the newer V2 version of that keyboard for less than $90 US dollars.
Good luck with your new mechanical keyboard, I love mine. |

Good news about Ducky One... I noticed the symptons described above disappear when the keyboard is switched from "N-Key Rollover mode" to "6-Key Rollover mode". There is a dip switch for that.
