| Hi All
I have just posted this video because I truly believe that new Amiga fans that are coming along need a cheap way to dip there toes and whilst we all know about the Raspberry Pi usually this is for games. This video is to show it can do so much more.

Oh, and yes it is faster than my 68060/60mhz A2000 as well and seems faster than Vampire too except FPU.
Don't lynch me

That's very impressive, Steve.
I have to say, the Pi3 is a marvellous little computer. My Macbook Pro failed earlier this year and I used the Pi as a desktop computer quite adequately for around three months before I got a new laptop.
If only I'd tried Amibian..... _________________ Fred Booth ======================================== A500, A600, A1200 c/w Mediator and 030 AmigaOne and OS4.1 Mac LCII, G4 Powermac running OSX + Amigakit and MorphOS 3.0 Dell Mini 10 Netbook running IcAros and AmigaForever+Amikit+AmigaSys 2006 Macb |

If you consider Raspberry an AMIGA, the answer is NO. X5000 is the fastest.

I would love to know how you got it to display in such a large resolution and how you got Picasso to work. I've always had trouble getting that far...
In other words, could you please write up a tutorial for this?!? :) |

| I rarely use my pi for amiga-emulation but when i do i wonder why i have my rather big amiga collection and keeps wasting money on vampires and some other less expensive hardware.
The pi has everything i need and give less problems. I must be sick or something

| This video is already my number 3 most watched so I guess my aim is succeeding of getting people re interested in Amiga through a mass selling and capable computer.
I will be doing a part 2 for this video to go through a lot of the comments that were made to address them. I will also show where the performance lacks, i.e. floating point etc.
I will do a follow up setup tutorial on how I did mine setup as well.
Mostly nice comments with occasional shouting
I think if I had not had my collection around me the comments may have been different. _________________ Amiga 1000, 3000D Toaster, Checkmate A1500 Plus http://www.checkmate1500plus.com/ |

I dunno, but I find there is the extra 'something' when using real hardware over emulation. Maybe it is because you don't have to worry about pressing F12 to get the emulation menu up to change floppies or the like.
Playing a game on my real A1200 is a totally different experience to playing on a PC/Pi emulating the machine :D |

I have only praise for the RPi3 and have been using it as my goto escape from the world at large. Just the way I have used Amigas since 1985.
Weather using it for hardware tinkering, software messing about, or most everyday stuff it just fills the void perfectly and does not fall flat on its face as my X1000/AOS does.
For me that is what Amiga has always been about. Not a PeeCee, but rather a fun, engrossing, multi-functional, companion.
Looking forward to part 2, Steve.

Ms. MadLemon and Dan Wood also have good videos on an Amibian setup. Along with my real hardware including Vampire, this is nice to use.
There are occasional glitches in sound when playing some games, a few crashes etc, but it is very fast and cheap. My last time I was using it there was an unusual amount of disappointments when running.
Haven't felt motivated to go back yet. |

I agree. I have a raspberry pi 3 and like it a lot. I can see where emulators fit it in especially if the user no longer has any original Amiga computers lying around but I find using the real thing a much better experience. It's as retro as it gets.

The Raspberry Pi has been the new Amiga to me since the Pi 3 came out. Some things are lacking, but it is so inexpensive that most people can afford one, and everyone is running the same hardware, which makes software a lot less trouble.
Your video is very interesting -- I look forward to the next one.

I have not been this excited/interested in MIDI since Music-X.
I installed Rosegarden and it picked up that Timidity was already on the system and uses that for an on-board synth. No configuring necessary. Of course Timidity allows the use of either GUS patches or SoundFonts and Rosegarden uses it seamlessly.
Then I dug out my Roland PMA-5 and Edirol UM-1SX USB to MIDI adaptor, plugged in, and Rosegarden also recognized that right away. Much better sound.
Just be sure to use a powered USB hub as the RPi3 has limited power.
It sure feels like Amiga.

Very intrigued by demonstration!
How does anyone think it would go on a Pi 1B, I think that's the one I have in the cupboard doing nothing!
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

great vid! I've past it on to my Raspberry Pi owner/ one time Amiga owners but for myself I could never consider any emulation thing would replace my real amigas...need to feel and see them

Nice to see you loitering here and there again.
In regards to RPi3 and Amibian, yep, Im a big fan. Have had it set-up for a little while now, and while it's not as "thorough" in regards to emulation as WinUAE, and the hardware obviously not nearly as fast, there's just something about it that makes it a great experience. Maybe it's the lack of pc post screens, the quick boot times to reaching the "Amiga" (not talking about reaching AmigaOS, that obviously depends on a person AmigaOS install), or even the fact that while its fast in 68k Amiga terms, it's not so quick that you dont have to still tune things for best performance (ala real 68k machines).
Whatever the reason, it really is great fun. |

Hello again, I just located my old Pi1 B that was rotting in the draw...
Much to my amazement, I got it to boot up a copy of my A3000 hard drive (WB3.1 file backup) in no time, seems to be running ok with full overclock set.
