I must point out that P1022 from A1222 is a combined embedded SIMD/FPU unit, not just FPU. If somebody start to use that SIMD unit it would be interesting to see performance gain.

That may explain the good results with both versions of Tower57 (as Trampolin uses SPE of course). And it doesn't look like "crippled" after all.

@Everblue:

SAM 460: As I don´t know if VAT is included it´s something like EUR 489,- plus case plus GPU plus sound card plus SATA-card plus hard disk plus optical drive and maybe plus VAT and RAM.

So something around EUR 800,- I guess.

Tabor/A1222Plus: As there is no public release or pricing yet, I don't know. For pre-orders it´somethink like EUR 400,- plus GPU (although you can use the onboard graphic-chip) plus HD plus CD/DVD pus case and maybe plus VAT/RAM.

So maybe a little bit cheaper than the SAM460 , but only for the first 100+ boards.

@OlafS25: Although this is an old offer the price will be in the same range I guess, maybe a little bit cheaper.

Thanks for that, so most probably price is more or less the same. My only concern with the Sam460 offer right now is that they won't be able to offer complete systems as certain parts will be out of production.

It's cheaper than you think because the parts you need are mostly considered junk by other people.

You need an SD Card which can host your primary OS. So, a few euro/dollars.

I got a 3com wifi card on ebay for basically the cost of postage, works with atheros driver.

Sound cards seem a bit hard to come by if you want PCIE option. But PCI option is easily found for few euro/dollars second hand.

A 32GB USB memory stick costs less than 10 euro/dollars. Use that for your 'work' drive. No need for a SATA drive at all.

I have a AMD Sapphire 6450 gfx card with 1GB video RAM. Works really nicely, passive heatsink so it's silent. Works great with Radeon 2 driver (so you need to buy Enhancer Plus). But no Nova support, not that you can really do anything with that except run nice tech demos. DVI and VGA ports work, but not HDMI so you need an adapter for DVI to HDMI. Can be had for

@thread

Can anyone confirm this is a current offer?

Last I read was about things being delayed.

I received an offer from a member here for an AmigaOne 500, so I'm probably going to take it. I'll let you know how it goes.

Have you bought it or are you still waiting for a Tabor?

Hi guys,

I'm considering buying an AmigaOS 4 system. I've been waiting for the Tabor for quite a while, but I'm wondering if I should just get a Sam 460 right now instead. Anyone knows how these compare performance wise? If the Sam 460 is as good as the Tabor, I'll take the plunge now I think, can't stand waiting anymore. Have previously owned Sam440 and Flex, now on emulation sadly.

Thanks in advance for your help guys.

Do you already have a MorphOS system, and now want to add another computer that you can run AmigaOS4 on? If your answer is NO, then I would suggest that you at least look at someone else's MorphOS system, or videos of a MorphOS system running the latest version of MorphOS and its new web browser and email client. The two systems are very similar in many ways, while being very different in a few other ways, but they both run a lot of old Amiga software through a translation layer, and both can also run all Amiga software when you use some version of UAE to emulate the Amiga hardware. I'm not trying to talk you into choosing one over the other, just suggesting that you look closely at both before you spend the money on new AmigaOS4 only hardware. That is what I did anyway, when I came back to the Amiga community, after about 5 years of not using any Amiga system, when life got busy and my youngest Son was born. I chose MorphOS first, but then ended up also buying an X1000 system to run AmigaOS4 only, when the 2nd or 3rd batch of X1000's were offered for sale.

Performance wise, I think the A1222/Tabor is going to be more powerful, in the long run. But both those systems are under powered, when it comes to modern computing, like web browsing, or using web based applications.

Good Luck with your decision.

@OneTimer1

The boards sold so quickly and demand was so strong they are now taking pre-orders for another larger batch.

@amigadave

Thanks for the info, but I asked this question back in 2017. I actually have MorphOS setup with a Mac Mini and it works very well.
