Consider getting the PowerUP version and run it on an X86 system. That one is available. Its's faster than the original H/W, it's cheap and flexible. I wouldn't be surprised if the PowerUP version is the most sold OS4 version by far. Also consider getting the latest version of Amiga Forever. Then you'll get every Amiga emulated from the first A1000 to the latest 4.1 final edition, with much extra value!
.

So I assume you've never really tested nor used AmigaOS 4.1 FE under emulation. Otherwise you would not write this comment.

@K-L

its amazing the crap people often write about machines they have never actually used or feel the need to pass judgement on just off some specs they see on paper.

Sorry but you are comparing systems running MorphOS, Linux, AmigaOS 4.1.

It has absolutley no interest here (and elsewhere by the way).

Let OS4 people using AmigaOS 4.1 talk in this topic, please.

what have to do one person for have a decent os4 experience buy a 3000€ machine?
os4 run real well on sam460 and sam 460 can be found for sure more than tabor... but only as a second hand machine.
for sure my os4 experiences is better than your in all way.

Well, you can find one if you look hard, but the X5000 is available, easily obtained and its new (not used).
I'd buy one before I'd consider Tabor though.

@tlosm

LOL.

I have been using AmigaOS 4.1 since 2004 (from my 1st AmigaOne G3) and since then I've been doing so on a daily basis for all my needs (mail, surfing the web, writing document, reading documents, listening to music in all formats, managing my websites, VNC, playing videos, watching YouTube videos, etc...).

What you only do with AmigaOS 4.1 are rather false benchmarks and comparing everything that have nothing to do alltogether.

Using AmigaOS 4 is not turning on your computer and watching your Workbench. If you want to know if a computer is better than another, you have to know it, use it in many ways.

You do not do this, you only know AmigaOS 4.1 because it is installed on your systems. You spend much more time under Linux benchmarking many things than using your computer.

AmigaOne X5000 costs 2600 Euros (not 3000) and Sam460 used to cost about 1200 Euros. Sam460 is an excellent system but is far weaker than the AmigaOne X5000 (or the AmigaOne X1000).

I had an AmigaOne G4 1,266 Ghz and switching to the X1000 changed totally my Workbench experience. So stop saying that X5000 is not faster than the Sam460. Either you don't know what you are talking about or you are just trolling.

It would appear that the basic trapping mechanism has been easy to implement.
Also execution of specially compiled binaries seems to work.

No indication from public postings if these two options work simultaneously.
The last option would be the trapping to native FPU code using a JIT mode.
The updated SDK prepares for code for the Tabor .

@Spectre660

Thanks, you I know I can trust for reliable information.
This entire matter isn't even a real issue under Linux.
But claiming its been 'solved' for NG OS' when that solution is a work in progress is irresponsible.

And people waiting for this need to temper their expectations, as the initial release of a JIT solution may not perform as well as later releases that have had time to mature.

I'm in favor of using specially compiled binaries wherever possible, this will eliminate the issue within the software itself.

And your mention that this is a multi-pronged approach is worth noting.

@ the thread

What's this nonsense about 2600 euros that's being bandied about here?
In the US, the current price for an X5000 system is $1,840.00.
That's a LOT less than 2600 euros.

You never did, you just argued that lower cost systems were a better value.

@Beans

There is a VAT in the EU that most of the world does not pay .

Note that the video playback in the second video is using the standard AmigaOS 4.1 binary.
No sound though. lack of sound has been know to slowdown video playback on AmigaOS 4.1 .

@Beans

Every thread throughout time on AW has referred to boards and systems as if they are the same thing, usually to "stress" a personal point. I suspect that is why you have a price discrepancy yet again.

I fear I don´t understand what you mean. Current OS4 applications work on Tabor (as reported in Tower 57 video), albeit with performance penalty.

Yep i don't quite get where they are getting these figures from. Here in the UK at amigakit.com the X5000 is £1750 including tax or €1925 at today's exchange rate.

My Sam board only cost me €1017.00 including tax or £750.00 back in 2014 when the £/€ exchange was a heck of a lot better.

Hi everyone,

Many thanks for all the info concerning both the SAM 460 and the upcoming Tabor.

As I wrote earlier, I'm already running AmigaOS 4 through Flowerpot/WinUAE, but it's far from the same experience as I'm used to with a Sam440ep or a Sam Flex. I regret selling the Flex a while ago and emulation is no substitute.

I've spent some time researching and it seems the AmigaOne 500 should fit my needs. If I need something more powerful, I'll buy another (faster) system in the future. It's mostly for Hollywood, tinkering, testing out various games for my blog and so forth. And hopefully some demo-development for Void as well. I more or less know what to expect now, so thanks for all the input. Much appreciated.

I received an offer from a member here for an AmigaOne 500, so I'm probably going to take it. I'll let you know how it goes.

Amiga rulez!
