@number6

Just curious.
When I posted the preliminary show schedule a few post ago:
http://www.amiwest.net/seminar/index.html

Steven Solie (AmigaOS4) was scheduled for Sunday morning.
I see this entry has been replaced.

Does this mean a cancellation or is any talk about Hyperion/AmigaOS being folded into another talk?

It means its all in flux until it happens.
Expect further changes and other surprises.

That's why it pays to go, instead of discussing it online.

RetroPi? The door was being held open by a Timex Sinclair 1000.

Hi.

I wanted to say thank you to all presentors and it feels a little bit like I'm there. You all did great and I would like at this time to address Jaime's lecture and say I appreciate it. Maybe he tried to present something to developers and the more tech-minded person but he ended up managing to bring me closer to grasping Xena. I think i can really go deep in terms of the logical structure of drives and file systems. I can even contemplate on the memory system. Xmos always seemed like - hey man the water is deep here go play with the kids. Long story short - mind blowing. Yes, I know that implementations are far away.

@Srtest

XMOS isn't that intimidating, its vastly easier to work with than an fpga.
The reason they implemented these in the first place is Paul Gentle's interest in the chips.
My first contact with Paul was about a sound card design he had based on XMOS.
It was from there that I learned that he had worked with the PA Semi PA6T.

This was all before the announcement of the X1000.
Even back then, Paul was advocating use Freescale Qorlq cpus for projects, not unobtainable cpus like the PA6T.

@Beans

You can call it a subjective experience without going into details.

Or........ I can say that I spent a couple hours of my saturday playing the game B.A.T and thought what a cool game and pity how it's stuck in the past and not so fun to play. You can say that combined with the lecture took me to a place where something like b.a.t can be offloaded to the signal processing part of xmos where tiny markers and notifications can be inserted to the data stream without interrupting it. Maybe it's a way to think about remakes without touching the game. That's just my entertainment part of the swamp.

@Srtest

I think there might be multiple applications for this if people would just start playing with it.
Of course it would help if there were some developer tools to work with.

XMOS being cheap I don't understand why they didn't put it in the A1222.
It is kind of going from AGA to ECS for a next product.

@kamelit0

More complex board = higher price. Assuming 99 % of users have no use for XMOS it was logical choice.

Thanks for the translation.
One error though, the text says that the new Radeon driver allows increased GFx RAM from the current 2GB limitation. This is incorrect. The current limitation is 256mb, the new driver allows all GFX RAM to be accessed by AmigaOS4. This is seems like a huge advance.

@TargExplorer

if i good remember in past hans wrote the 256mb show by system was the ram bar but the radeon driver was using all the gfx ram not only the 256mb show by the system.
because of this i think this is not an advantage just a small hack.

the true advantage for me is the opportunity to use of the last gpus but we dont have software that use the power of a radeon hd 4xxx series.... have last gpu for what?

Today there are no vdpau and no va accelerations that will gave a true advantage in video playback bacause it will use the in hardware (gpu) decoding operations ... have it can be a true advantage.
