| Sad to notice that lovely Peg2 systems are not used.
Mine has now broken. And I am looking for replacement.
I was using it as my main PPC machine under MorphOS, OS4, DebianPPC and MOL.
I am looking for a replacement in a reasonable price.
Mobo CPU gfx card and ram.
I got a nice tower for it.
It will sure not collect dust.

Noone is any wiser about what you do with your NG system, we just know that it collects dust, which suggests the answer is "nothing". |
My aren't you a sharp one. You must have actually read my initial post. If you don't like the answers presented here maybe should refrain from all the negative commentary, It gets in the way of people who actually want to know what we've done or what we are doing with our NG Amigas. Do you make it a habit of commenting on every post you don't like or do you just make negative comments about MY posts? Because several others have stated they also do "nothing" with their NG Amgias but you've yet to attack them or make any snide remarks in their direction.
BTW, I have an SMP x86_64 AROS system that I use for testing but the OS4 purists don't consider it an NG Amiga because it isn't crippled by a PPC CPU or OS4 so I neglected to mention it earlier.Last edited by ferrels on 10-Sep-2017 at 06:15 AM. | I use my MorphOS systems for almost everything: webbrowsing, mails, listen to music, watching and managing photos, programming, reading pdfs, writing texts, doing spreadsheets... Other systems are used rarely.

I'm an OS 4 user and MorphOS, AROS and AmigaOS 4.1 are real Amiga NG systems. Could you please point me to the thread where these OS4 purists said so ?
Regading my usage :
* Browsing (QtWeb, Odyssey and Netsurf -on the Sam440) * YouTube (SmTube and Emotion) * PDF reading( qPDF or AmiPDF) * IRC (WookieChat) * Mail (SimpleMail) * Music (TuneNet and aTunes) * Photo sorting (AmiPhoto) * Managing my websites (Odyssey, pFTP) * Creating photo albums (AmiPhoto or FxPaint) * dNetc (dNetc) * Playing games (thanks Huno, Entwickler X , ... !) * Managing my internal server (TwinVNC, SMBFS,...) * Writing articles for aMiGa=PoWeR (French mag made with PageStream)
And others things I msut be forgetting
Using the zTools and the Enhancer Software has also greatly enhanced my Workbench (I have the same WB since 2004 and I managed to keep it like I want since then and the different OS updates ). _________________ PowerMac G5 2,7Ghz - 2GB - Radeon 9650 - MorphOS 3.14 AmigaONE X1000, 2GB, Sapphire Radeon HD 7700 FPGA Replay + DB 68060 at 85Mhz |

Stop right there, its not a Amiga because it is a DELL computer, or a Toshiba or something else. It is the company that build the hardware that decides what your computer is called. For example AmigaONE is not a Amiga because it’s a different product name, it is at least 3 more letters then in the Amiga Name.
"AROS" did not comes from the Amiga Operating System Source code, it came from the reverse engineering, just like React OS is not Window, or Wine is not Windows. Or Codewarrior.
For better or for worse is a replica.
Maybe you should focus on what is great about AROS, instead of being a di*k.Last edited by NutsAboutAmiga on 10-Sep-2017 at 11:44 AM. Last edited by NutsAboutAmiga on 10-Sep-2017 at 10:50 AM.

Well, your definition of what is an Amiga is really narrow. Even Bill McEwen at one time talked about AmigaOne as part of Amiga desktop platform.
AROS is one of NG Amiga-like OSs, of course it belongs to this thread. |

Well "Amiga Inc" kind of owned it so they were free to define it as whatever they liked. Contract works/partners Eyetech and Hyperion was signed a contract to use it.
I'm happy they decided to not call it Amiga in retrospect, AmigaONE and Amiga don't have lot in common.
Personably I call it AmigaPPC or AmigaPower instead of AmigaONE.
As the "ONE" is not really a defining word. Last edited by NutsAboutAmiga on 10-Sep-2017 at 11:46 AM. Last edited by NutsAboutAmiga on 10-Sep-2017 at 11:03 AM. Last edited by NutsAboutAmiga on 10-Sep-2017 at 10:59 AM.

| I also have heard a lot of times that there isn't enough software to run on NG and that's a reason to neglect them. Well, about 4 months ago I started a thread posting screengrabs of my MorphOS system (have uploaded them also in MorphOS fans fcbk page) and I am still continuing doing so. You can browse it here : http://www.amigaplanet.gr/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6369. It has over 35 grabs and about 100 different things to show and use. You can read about the discussion with Google translate though since it's in Greek.

Thanks mate , actually I am envolved in so many hobbies that I am not devoting the needed time to be better to any of them ... maybe I must create a youtube video on my channel with art created on my Amiga as a slide show . If it happens I will post here the link..
In another thread I asked about an Amiga Os compatible sketching tablet and I ordered one from ebay as a result but the seller canceled the order and refund me the money due to problems shipping the tablet from Canada. I will order a new one but when I can afford a decent one this time...
Again thank you for your kind words. Last edited by 50mm on 10-Sep-2017 at 12:34 PM.

The trademark 'AmigaONE' is fine and the 'ONE' suffix didn't hurt in marketing Microsoft's latest XBOX console either
At least it wasn't chosen as AmigaNG! Now that would have been horrible _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

SF? Yeah, he's 'special'....
But I can understand his point about the dearth of software for NG systems. Its hard to point to these systems as practical when there isn't a lot you can do with them.
I'm a hardware fanatic, and this is just a hobby to me, so I don't feel like I have to justify how I spend my time and money.
I have a reasonably good web browser, I can play sound and video files, do basic text editing, check my e-mail...so a lot of my basic computing needs are covered.
And since I don't play games, this platform works better for me than legacy hardware.Last edited by Beans on 10-Sep-2017 at 11:12 PM.

So far the only person here who is being a di*k is you. The rest are just cranky. Why don't you focus on what is so great about Amiga branding instead of being such a vag*na! Or better yet, change your profile name from NutsAboutAmiga to TesticlesAboutAmiga, pun intended.
And sorry to tell ya, but the only real Amigas are the ones that were made by Commodore. Even your precious PPC Amiga and my AROS box are just facsimiles, but unfortunately you're too delusional to understand that.Last edited by ferrels on 11-Sep-2017 at 02:24 AM. 1st : post #25 came after my initial question (fortunately for you).
2nd : NutsAboutAmiga doesnt even think an AmigaOne is an Amiga.
3rd : only one example doesn't make a whole.
So far, I did not see any OS4 "purist" say what you affirm. Period._________________ PowerMac G5 2,7Ghz - 2GB - Radeon 9650 - MorphOS 3.14 AmigaONE X1000, 2GB, Sapphire Radeon HD 7700 FPGA Replay + DB 68060 at 85Mhz |

You didn't ask for a "whole". You asked for an example of an OS4 purist and I gave you one. If you have a problem with math, then I cant help you. Period.Last edited by ferrels on 11-Sep-2017 at 02:29 AM. Last edited by ferrels on 11-Sep-2017 at 02:29 AM.

Ok. Now could you, if possible for you, stay on topic and stop hijacking every thread talking about things you hate ?
Maybe you could be much more constructive and open a new thread regarding what can be done with AROS nowadays ? _________________ PowerMac G5 2,7Ghz - 2GB - Radeon 9650 - MorphOS 3.14 AmigaONE X1000, 2GB, Sapphire Radeon HD 7700 FPGA Replay + DB 68060 at 85Mhz |

Hijacking every thread? You have got to be kidding. This is the first thread I've responded to in weeks. And why do you keep accusing me of hate and anger. I never hated my PegII nor OS4 nor did they ever cause me any anger, The question was asked what I do/did with my NG Amigas and I answered that. I also spoke of my reluctance to mention my AROS box because I knew I'd be attacked for calling it an NG Amiga since so many here (including you) are so hostile towards x86 and don't agree that AROS systems are NG Amigas. You and NutsAboutAmiga have only proven my point.....mention anything that's even loosely critical about OS4 and PPC and get flamed. And God forbid you call an AROS system an NG Amiga....then we have to endure YOUR constant thread hijacking and personal attacks!

There's truly nothing next gen about AOS4 ... It's more of a slight update while moving to a new arch. Next gen would actually remove limitations that AOS3 had.

Just received my new X5000 and am really enjoying it so far. Mostly have been spending time downloading and configuring tools.
I plan to use it as my download station for retro computing files.
Also use it for playing music as I have a decent set of speakers hooked up.
Longer term plans are to use the computer for more and more tasks as I collect the software needed. It's quick, fun and I really like OS4 so far.
