Like the topic now with an i7 is possible emulate the complete Ps3 thanks to a jit compiler of the cpu

Just for remember the Ps3 cell was a PPC SPE 3.2 Ghz CPU six thread
cell dnetc benchmark

@tlosm

Why not a Threadripper system instead of i9?

@WolfpackN64

my first choice was a xeon but i sow the benchmark of a single core i9 and become shocked.
10 core of i9 are really good in prize/performances .
i9 benchmark
compare with general benchmarks

here

Can Power 9 emulate an older x86/64? Then again an i7 is CISC so emulating a RISC should be easy enough. A RISC emulating a CISC is another matter.

yes it can and it can fast, thanks to LE is more faster then before in emulating...

Check here the Power8 Talos

but for me this is an long time investment and i was thinking:
there are every 1 programmer RISC/Power about 10.000 in CISC/X86 in proportion and this make me more simple find what i need.

A Xeon on the same microarchitecture has exactly the same performance as a comparable i9.
But again, why not a Threadripper system?

If you see I9 is quite faster than the Ryzen.
i check the performance of Ryzen too ,but in past i have not good experiences on AMD machine ... example today after 16 years i can do pratically everything on my old 2001 Pentium 4 i can use last browers too ... this cant be possible on my 2005 amd athlon because some intel cpu specs are not available on it ... eg sse2 .

If you want an i9 you want multicore performance right? Unleass you opt for the 18 or 16 core i9, which both cost a lot more then Threadripper, Threadripper will beat out all other i9's in multicore performance.

Let alone most i9's seem to be suffering heat issue's.

@WolfpackN64

but in single thread power ? will be better i9 or the Ryzen?
let me explain for me is more important have 10 core more powerful in single thread than have 20 core with less single threads performances

It shouldn't matter if the host kernel is running in LE mode or not, as PPC can read "backwards" from an index register pointer. Power should support the LE instructions. Of course it may be slower that way than in exclusive LE.

x86/64 has MOVEBE which means it can read/write BE directly so faster in emulation. But I don't know also how much overhead it has. Traditionally a BSWAP would handle a conversion.

In either case it looks like QEMU doesn't support vectors natively. And Power vectors are lost in LE mode from what I read. So using LE mode to work around "broken" software on Power will just cripple it other wise if so.

Bit of a worry that Raptor has no PPC computers listed in the shop section. Dare I say Varisys should be dumped for Raptor. Still expensive but a damn bit more powerful than an X5000 I reckon. And a Cell BBE.

It's always going to be the case now that any x86 power horse will be cheaper and more powerful than any thing else along with better software support.
