Want a new PPC mobo in the not so distant future?
It is now the right time for a little contribution!

The guys behind the PowerPC notebook project that are collaborating with ACube are asking for a last round of support.
The laptop will be equipped, among other features, with a PowerPC CPU NXP T2080, an M.2 connector for the SSD, an MXM connector on a PCI-e 3.0 lane for the video card, and will have space for two DDR3L modules.

Here the latest post on their blog: Electrical Schematics as a present
In that post, they just launched another project for which they are looking for volunteers: the Open Source Laptop Chassis Designs

As of today, they reached the 67% of the required €12,600 goal for delivering the electrical schematics.

Here the donation campaign page, you may use PayPal.

Here a simplified diagram of what the electrical schematics will try to achieve [click to enlarge]

Scheduled? The board hasn't even been designed, let alone prototyped, tested and actually manufactured.

Yes, and x5000 works in seat of an airplane better than a t2080 too. Or on long car trip when someone else's turn to drive. Or on a bus or train. Yes, x5000 us superior at all things.

@Tuxedo

I'm not aware of any particular scheduling for anything between now and this laptop running OS4...

Potential is what I am interested in.

The only other potential for a laptop Amiga is Hans's case project for Tabor board.

Two rather opposite ideas... Having put a lot of thought into MiniITX laptop case in the past, I happen to like the idea of a new motherboard for a nice modern laptop case better. That idea may or may not happen. Hans may have an angle I never thought of, and Tabor might somehow be better suited than microA1 was years ago. It may or may not prove more successful than the other idea.

I'll be very excited if either of them or even both comes true.

It is superior only if one thread OS that not use altivec instructions...
On an smp OS (Linux) will be opposite in cpus total mips.
The worst of 2080 are the derser only 16 total available... Where for sure only 8 will be used for expansion slot... You will have ipotetically one 4x pcie 3.0 for GPU and the remain for other pcie extra slots.

The best is use the 4xxx serie where the derser geve you the opportunity to have real 16x pcie 3.0
plus :
4xxx series and 2xxx series are pin compatible.

@thread

The first crowdfunding campaign for the PowerPC laptop is successfully concluded.

We are now waiting for the hardware designer at ACube Systems that is currently finishing up the electrical schematics for the laptop motherboard.
As soon as these schematics will be made publicly available, the second crowdfunding campaign for the PCB layout will start.

Meanwhile, people at the PowerProgressCommunity are making good progress on setting up a Debian PPC64 distro using the CPU T2080.

Here is a video showing the first successful attempt in making the NXP dev board with the CPU T2080 booting in graphical mode using a PCIe RadeonHD 5450 attached to the onboard PCIe 4x using a PCIe 16x adaptor

@virgolamobile

What are Power PCS CPUs going for these days?
I take it that these are system-on-a-chip?

IMR they are drawing sketches and planning hardware designs for the last three years, I think they will continue with that in the next three years.
