Hey all. I have a question that I didn't really see an answer for. Who is the equivalent of the old software company – SoftHut? I’d like to be able to find any and all commercial and physical CD Amiga OS 4 games, to include all of the upcoming games like Tower 57 and Re-Shoot. Also, is there a “Steam” equivalent on Amiga? Thanks.

Ed

@edponpon

For physical copies of games:

Amiga retailers Stateside are limited to the reliable Amiga on the Lake. www.amigaonthelake.com

Other reliable retailers but based in Europe but will ship worldwide and have games for sale: www.amiga-shop.net (Germany), www.amigakit.co.uk (UK) www.amigastore.eu (Spain) https://www.amedia-computer.com/en/15-amiga (France)

Digital downloads are also possible by Amistore which you can download on to your OS4 machine www.amistore.net/

Hyperion also offer digital downloads of Gorky 17 and Descent Freespace via their website www.hyperion-entertainment.biz/

There is no steam equivalent for OS 4 and they sadly do not support OS4. However you can find PC game files cheaply from GOG.com which will need to be used for OS4 ports of games like Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Baldurs Gate, Descent Freespace 2, Quake 3 Arena. You may need to extract and install these to a PC before moving across the relevant files and combining these with any games you see on OS4 Depot www.os4depot.net or https://www.amigasoft.net/ or hunoppc.amiga-projects.net/ Please remember to try and tip where possible to allow people to continue to produce the great stuff that they do!

Hope this helps

@Trekiej

I usually do as well, but not lately. I'm not seeing very many games at all.

I was asking this because I saw this - https://www.generationamiga.com/2017/01/16/50-great-games-for-amigaos4amigaone/ and wanted to get most of the games. Unfortunately, the article didn't say where to get the games.

I will definitely support our community, so tips and paying for these games isn't going to be an issue. On a side note; I just bought an AmigaOne X5000 from AotL, so I'm looking forward to getting that badboy! Thanks for both replies so far. It does help. Cheers.

Ed

If it may be worth asking AOTL if they'll consider stocking some of the games you're interested in.

He got some leftovers from Softhut, seems to be some chips and CD-Roms but no games.

@outrun1978

Thanks for the very thorough list. I also looked at your X5000 blog, now bookmarked because it's so good. I just bought Wings remastered from Cinemaware because of your blog. I completely forgot that was made until I saw your review, so thanks for that as well.

I've asked the folks at Amiga on the Lake (AotL) if they could start carrying more software. Only time will tell. One thing I'm noticing is that some software seems to fall off the face of the Earth after only a few months - Tales of Gorluth 1 for instance. AmigaKit used to have it, and the other site shows it, but it's out of stock and probably has been for awhile. Makes me wonder where you can get these hard to find games now.

Thanks.

Ed

You can buy Tales of Gorluth as a digital only copy via Amistore. It's £6.64 including the processing fee and 20% tax.

Thanks Rob. All the more reason why I can't wait to get my X5000 so I can see all this stuff.

Look at www.amiboing.de for our games. Most games are available on amistore or alinea-computer.de.

Two games are on CD, available at most amiga shops.

amiboing.de was aimed as a small "steam" for AmigaOS but our time is currently limited to push it forward.

Spencer is looking good. Are you still working on the isometric 3D or was that mainly part of the process of learning to make 3D games?

I hope more developers integrate Amigoing accounts into there games. It's good to see how your skills and progress compare to other users in the community.

@ thread,

I was thinking of this and wondered why none of the Hyperion game are around anymore. Maybe Amigakit can get distribution rights to these and get them on sale again & give Hyperion a piece of the pie and put Quake2 and all the others back on the market since Hyperion is kind of tied up at the moment.

@QuikSanz

Gorky 17 is available:
https://www.amiga-shop.net/Amiga-Software/Amiga-Spiele/Gorky-17::729.html?language=de

also Freespace has an update and works fine now on AmigaOS4.x:
http://hyperion-entertainment.biz/index.php/news/37-games/181-descent-freespace-available-as-digital-download-and-update-for-amigaos-41

It is not only a simple new release, all games also needs some work to run (better) on current Hardware/AmigaOS.

@edponpon

you might find the lists of AOS4-native commercial software titles and current amiga dealers on intuitionbase.com useful. they should be able to answer both of your questions to some degree.

@outrun1978,
All the Hyperion games look good, unfortunately most out of print, a shame!
