A1XE + Soundblaster - no sound

Hi folks,

My slow creep towards a reinstated and working A1 is almost complete but I can't seem to get any sound out of it.

I have a bog standard Soundblaster card which I know used to work in this machine and I just tested it in my Pegasos and it works.

In Prefs/AHI, I have it set to EMU10kx:HiFi 16 bit stereo++ but have also tried a few other settings.
Still no sound.

Can anyone give me any pointers as to what else I need to check or set?

Cheers

@Robert

My SBLive! only worked in the bottom most PCI slot when I had a A1XE.

@Signal

Thanks.
It's in the bottom slot but I also tried it in another.
No joy yet.

@Robert

There are very many versions of "Soundblaster" and only some of them work with the available device drivers. For instance, I was never able to get any SB to work that had been supplied in a Dell chassis.

You may get some advice if you can identify your model exactly, but it's not certain that it will be usable.

@tonyw

I'm not in front of it right now so can't tell you specific model but I can tell you that it worked in the same A1 previously. (When I got 4.1 I wiped the HD and started afresh.)

@Robert

It might help if you post all of your AHI settings here.
If you started fresh you might have missed a setting that an XE owner can assist you with.

audio issues

Yeah, old thread, but something might jog your memory here.

a shorter summary

Heh. It seems to have helped an XE owner long long ago:

Will do once I get back in front of it, which might be a wee while - can't get a minute these days.

Finally got back in front of the A1.

The card is a Soundblaster SB Live, serial no MSB0220310120870 and previously worked fine in the same machine.

My current AHI settings are:
Music unit
EMU10kx: 16 bit stereo++

Mode ID 0x001e0004
Recording Full duplex
Driver Devs:AHI/emu10kx.audio
Version emu10kx.audio 6.7

Still baffled by this as I know there's nothing wrong with the card and am reasonably confident it's nothing to do with the A1 hardware.

@Robert

You should set all the Units in AHI prefs. Use the Unit menu appearing just before the device list and set all units to use the SB Live device driver, just like the Music Unit.

Did you do that?

@Morphix

Thank you, that seems to have done the trick.
I now have sound - yay!
