With the welcome release of AmiSSL 4.2 I'm now able to upload AWeb 3.5.12 to os4depot.

This release adds suport for AmiSSL 4.2 to AWeb and so allows access to many of the sites that were not previously accessable via https.

Version 4.2 of amissl is required as AWeb's multiple simulataneous network connections were trigger a race condition bug in AmiSSL's error handling. Many thanks to Oliver Roberts (futura) for helping get a debug build of AmiSSL built allowing me to track the issue down, and then for him promptly implmenting the fix.

The new AmiSSL is currently available direct from github.

https://github.com/jens-maus/amissl/releases

bit of a catch 22 with downloading wth AWeb though

AWeb will be available from os4depot.net

http://os4depot.net/index.php?function=showfile&file=network/browser/aweb.lha

It's currently in the upload queue at time of writing this so please ensure you are accessing 3.5.12

Src code is in the archive. I don't have the aweblib "module" code for targets other than OS4 unfortunatly so can't build for other targets at this time.

[edit]
Some typos

[edit 2]
My typo fix added another , doh!

AmiSSL 4.2 is now also available from Aminet, and therefore via AmiUpdate also.

@broadblues

Thanks. All went smoothly.
You have shown that there are parts of a web browser that can be worked on without knowing every dad-gum thing about it.

@broadblues

Nice Work =)

edit:
I notice AW will oipen a screen the same size as a set WB screen but saving an IFF still only does 1 screen height are we able to change that

I was playing to scroll using SGrab in Odyssey if necessary but this option under AW could save me quite a bit of time

eg the max I can do currently is a height of 4096

I guess we better allow for the max width too just case 4032

maybe a tooltype so not to disturb anything internally?

Thanks and no worries if can't be done easily

btw, it's perfectly fine that the IFF saved only saves whatever is inside the inside borders of the actual browser window so I know the image won't be 4096 high... this is desirable

so using a fast calculation the max image saved out with AW snapped to max WB would be
somewhere around 3700x4000 twice as wide and 4 times as high as the normal 1920x1080
height is the most important factor so forget width if required

@broadblues

Thanks for this update and will have a play around with this later. I realise that it wont be up to the level of Odyssey or Netsurf but Aweb has always been one of my favourite Amiga browsers so it will be nice to get some more use out of it than I currently do!

The image created by AWeb is as wide as the current window and as tall as needed to display the entire document.

I just saved the home page of Amigaworld.net and the result was 883 x 5029 x 24 (depth) so I'm not sure what you are trying to say here.

A wider grab of the same page came out at 1243 x 3067 less tall because the text had wordwrappped less due to the wider "window".

The limit to the height is probably the maximum height of a bitmap

@broadblues

Just had a quick play of this over my lunchbreak and have to say its very nice and quick on the X5000

Obviously I don't expect this browser to be playing You Tube videos but I am curious to know what realistically can be done if at all to update this browser to the level of say where Netsurf is at the moment and add a bit more colour to websites like bbc.co.uk or Wikipedia.org?

@outrun1978

Not realy very much TBH. To add css styles support needs a completely new HTML engine.

Thank you very much for the release, Andy.

You are one of developers who works tirelessly and in silence, and I respect your hard work.

Even if I do not use AWeb, tell me if I could donate anything.

@Raffaele

If anyone ever wants to support me with a donation there's a donation button on my website at

http://www.broad.ology.org.uk/amiga/

You should bear in mind that a the final fix was implmented in AmiSSL by Oliver so perhaps send a donation their way too.

@broadblues

Thank you for this release... AWeb is obsolete though!

All browser on OS 4 are obsolete:

Can't go on my bank account on Odyssey (Failure when receiving data from the peer)

And AWeb even can't display the home page.

https://accesd.desjardins.com/

Bye!

@Pierre55

AWeb displays the home page here assumng that link to DesJardins was the home page you meanr. I doubt you could (or should) try and log in with though.

With this update AWeb displays a number of sutes that Chrome on my linux laptop can't (oldish Debian but chrome on it is a few years newer tham Odyssey) so obsolete does not mean useless.

Another bonus is trend towards ever more structured page design means that so long as the page is not highliy javascript based it's readable in AWeb if not pretty.

Also the horrid self compressed javascript trend seems to have passed, so AWeb limitation with garbage collection inside an eval loop no longer causes it to grind to a hault.

@broadblues

Thanks for updating AWeb. It was my main web browser for many years
on my Amiga A2000HD and the first program I added to my MicroA1 in
my early days on AmigaOS4.

Strange... I have a blank page when trying to load the page!

I'm pretty sure that the page is not showing as it should, in Odyssey it's correct but can't go further, it's not a SSL problem I guess.

1. Make sure you are using AWeb 3.5.12
2. If you are using the right version, you might have the empty request from an earlier version in cache so reload the page after it fails first time.

It wont be prety CSS layout, but you can read through it. Depending on the security technology in use you might be able to spoof you way in, but I'm not sure I'd recomend AWeb for banking even if iy could forced to work.

I just retested first with 3.5.11 gave a ssl3 connect error. Then I tried with 3.5.12 first go returned the empty doc from cache. Second worked. (in a grey everything in one long column kind of way ofcourse...)
