Pegasos dead?

Hi folks,

My Peg1 has recently stopped working.
It was booting up OK the other week but now it sounds like the HD is spinning up but nothing appears on screen.
I've tried switching graphics cards but that hasn't helped.

Anyone any ideas on how to check whether it's dead or just a graphics issue?

Cheers

@Robert

Attach a serial cable and paste the output.

@jacadcaps

What's the best way to see the output on, say, an A1XE?

Seems there is *some* life in it.

I haven't managed to see any serial output yet but since I switched it on a few minutes ago the monitor has displayed "RADEON 8500 113-85702-102 BIOS"

@Robert

I used Term on Aminet. It may have needed some configuring to work on OS4. I used it for serial debugging years ago. Essentually hook a null modem cable in between. Set hardware protocol to 8N1. Speed, not entirely sure. 9,600. Or 112,500.

Thanks.

I've found what I think is a null modem cable and have just downloaded term from aminet but haven't the first clue how to use it yet. (double clicking the icon just displays an 'upload queue' icon)

I'll have a read of the docs and see if I can make some sense of it.

So it can't be totally dead.

Some of the manuals say:
- Turn on your Pegasos 1/2 :)
- Press escape on the keyboard until you reach the Open Firmware prompt

Now you should have a chance of seeing something ob your screen without using the MorphOs GFX drivers.

BTW.:
Did the Pagasos stopped working suddenly or was it a problem updating MorphOS ?

No, it's an Pegasos not an AmigaOne.

@OneTimer1

Thanks - interrupting with escape seems to have mysteriously cleared
something; I typed 'boot' directly afterwards and, lo and behold, I'm
typing this on it now!

Weird behaviour but seems to be in working order again now.

Which means it will eat an battery every few years instead of 2 weeks

So dying battery is still a plausible option.

Looks like you may not need it after all. I just tested it and it still loads up. I recall I had to change my settings for serial to point to a1serial.device. And unit 1 (with cable on port 1) in my case as UBoot used unit 0. And perhaps the screen mode as well.
