I would describe it as AOS 3.x being more edgy and aggressive while AOS 4 being more... round and a bit hollow.
Now I know that 99% of you will think that I'm crazy . But that is how I would describe it. Not optimized is actually exactly what it feels like. |

Surely GUIs today are more demanding than in the older days when "eye candy" was not feasible. But it should be also possible to configure and thus, affect the feeling. Have you tried to make your AmigaOS 4 GUI settings similar to ones used in 3.9?

I would say that apps using Reaction 'feel' more 'slow'. So IBrowse, as a MUI app, 'feels' 'faster'. |
I would say apps using MUI "feel" slow when I try to open a menu or press a gadget, when nothing happens, because it was "thinking" and MUI doesn't multitask like Intuition does. |

Modern user interfaces react more slowly to human input than those of yesteryear on purpose, not just because they are heavier and more feature rich. There is a large corpus of research in UX and it has shown that interfaces that react immediately are disconcerting for many people, especially when things flicker in and out of view too fast to read as you move your mouse over things. This has been taken further with tactile interfaces where animation is now standard. _________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |

Maybe you should go through SYS:Prefs, and disable the new OS 4.x GUI features. I'm talking about things such as: - Text anti-aliasing - Live window updating (older versions just show you a rectangle until you release the mouse) - Drop-shadows - Truecolour screens (drop down to 256 colours, and whatever resolution you're used to on OS 3.x) - Change the window and backdrop styles to match your OS 3.x setup
There are probably a fair number of other settings that could be disabled to match OS 3.x too. I'd be interested to hear if you notice a difference with apps that run on both systems.

Hmm... these suggestions I know about and I have tried AOS 4.x with AOS 3.x look and feel. It's a general feeling when you're really using AOS 4.x. I'm comparing the A1 XE with my old a4k. The general feal is different even though it does run rings around the a4k in most situations. The general feal is different to me. It isn't exactly bad or anything, just different. Slightly |

I'm sure it's the mouse and mouse pad! Try connecting your old Tank Mouse but be sure to disable "acceleration" in the Input prefs! |

OS4 is Great in the XE and could buy more as fixed.
You know. Programs and the Net+print.
Feel is Fast , (Not in Odyssey compared to this free Opera on modern pc )..
If there are comming more issues in security I would recommend the Amiga "obsolete" card and still support. No new viri works in Amiga.
