Yes, it's annual AmigaOS 4.x graphics card survey time again (last one was about a year ago). Please click the link and fill it in because the more people who do, the more accurate it is. It'll only take a minute.

Click here to complete the survey.

Hans

P.S., please share the link with others so we get the most accurate picture possible.

EDIT: Thanks for all the responses. Click here to see the results.

@Hans

Hi Hans,
Not voting, because I'm not using the OS outside of emulation yet.

But the continuing development of drivers for OS4 for later gpus is impressive.

@arthoropod

Thanks.

EDIT: I've now added UAE/WinUAE as a selectable option, and will reassign emulation responses to that one.

Hans

@Hans

Only one choice for me at this time. My MicroA1 has an onboard Radeon 7000.

I appreciate the good work you are doing to support so many Radeon graphics cards.

Thanks,

Thanks for the responses so far. There have been so many "UAE" responses that I've separated those out from "Other." So, you can now select UAE/WinUAE (any card) directly.

I could still use some help spreading the word. So, if you're also active on another AmigaOS forum (e.g., in a different language), then it would be great if you could post it there.

A quick note to Sam440ep users: the Radeon M9 in your machine is a mobility Radeon 9xxx series graphics chip. So, please select that option.

Thanks for all the responses so far.

A few more notes:
1. Please reserve "Other" for cards that really don't fit the other categories. I don't need to know if you have a Sapphire R7 250 or GigaByte R9 280X; they're all Radeon Rx xxx series cards (Southern Islands)
2. If you only have one graphics card, then select "None" for question 2. Do NOT list the same card twice

@Morphix

Thanks. And thanks to everyone else who submitted so far. I've now got more submissions than last year.

The survey will remain open for another week to give people who visit forums less often a chance to contribute too.

Just a quick bump to remind people that the survey will close this coming Sunday. Most people have submitted already, but if you haven't then please do so now.

LOL @ obvious Windows10 logo spoof

Emulation users, what would get you to buy real hardware?

Let me take a wild guess at what most people will answer - cheap and accessible hardware. Make the OS4 port to old PowerPC Macs official already.

Personally I run OS4 on A3000/CSPPC (but not much, Roadshow in 4.1 is rather broken and outdated compared to Roadshow for OS3), and on FS-UAE on my PowerBook.

@Hans
I comment the following here as there was a disturbing pop-up window on the site where results were published.

Quote:
Use of old cards remains stubbornly high. I guess people like to keep using their old hardware as much as possible. It's also surprising how many people still use Radeon X1xxx to Radeon HD 6xxx series cards. They're all PCI-Express cards just like the Radeon HD 7xxx and newer series, but 3D drivers are not available for them. Lack of 3D would be a dealbreaker for me.

There are several reasons to still use 'older' cards. I use a HD 5450 (bought as brand new a year ago) in my X5000 for these reasons:

1. Compatibility. It works with ALL operating systems available for X5000 - AmigaOS, LInux distros (Ubuntu, Debian, Opensuse, Fedora...) and MorphOS. (For comparison, a R7 240 which I bought first, does not work at all with MOS and some of the Linux distros).

2. Energy consumption. My 5450 uses only 11W! As I do not necessarily need a faster graphichs card, I cannot see any sense to have an energy hog running all the time I have my machine on, eating more energy than all the other components of my machine together!

3. I have no need for 3D with AmigaOS. The only 3D game I use regularly is SuperTux Kart, and there is 3D support for 5450 in Linux.

Regards,

Gregor
