I have noticed that A-EON is the owner of both here (updated privacy page I had to accept before posting) and amiga.org amoungst others. Is there a push for ownership over everything AMIGA related or something going on? _________________ It's not the question that's the problem, it's the problem that's the question. |

Yes
Seriously though, yes there does appear to be an attempt by Hyperion and A-Eon to own everything under the one roof (even the things they have no right to own..... ie. cloanto vs hyperion at the moment).
When you control everything you can control the outside perception, which is strongly needed in Amigaland seeing as its all so laughable when you see the broad picture.
Yes, I'll probably cop flack for speaking the truth by those who are only interested in OS4 for saying it, but I'd rather live in reality myself. Pretending things are different than they really are helps absolutely no-one. |

2 websites among many, it's a coup d'état !! (ROFL)
And what has OS4 to do with all this ? _________________ PowerMac G5 2,7Ghz - 2GB - Radeon 9650 - MorphOS 3.14 AmigaONE X1000, 2GB, Sapphire Radeon HD 7700 FPGA Replay + DB 68060 at 85Mhz |

| I think all that happened is the originally owners of these two site both lost intrest/time/or lack money to keep the sites going so looked for new owners and trever being the Amiga mega fan wanted to keep these sites online, i’ve not notice any real changes so pleased by the new owners. _________________ AmigaNG, YouTube, LeaveReality Studio |

| It just boils down to who you can sue in case of non-compliance with GDPR of the mentioned sites - A-EON/AmiKit - I cannot ever imagine that ever happening, heh... :) Last edited by kolla on 29-May-2018 at 05:24 PM.

As far as I can tell we are able to criticise the site owners without fear of being censored or banned. Your own post demonstrates this. |

| Trevor is a real Amiga fan. He owns literally hundreds of Commodore and Amiga machines, all arranged in racks, all working. He has spent a fortune in supporting the Classic and NG Amigas over many years, and for no return other than his own satisfaction.
It's only because of Trevor's generosity that amigaworld and amiga.org continue to exist. Trevor (and his companies) get nothing back from those sites and accept whatever criticism people post thereon about him.

So you don't like AmigaKit's new website then?! Hard to tell with your broken English. Seems alright to me. Maybe it doesn't display so well on a Classic Amiga? Not trying to make an excuse but... It's possible they had to focus on their store first. Priorities perhaps.

I'm not actually convinced that these forums present a GDPR issue. Manual deletion of user accounts is, and always has been possible in both xoops and vbulletin. Both also provide admin controls over inclusion of modules for third party advertising purposes. To my mind a lot of sites have closed up for no good reason. A knee jerk reaction to legislation that has been hyped up to unreasonable levels.
The intention of GDPR is to give users more control over how their data is collected and shared, to enable them to obtain the data held by a given provider and to exercise the right to be forgotten.
For a forum that isn't conducting any commercial activities, updating the T&C, locking down any third party (advertising, analytics etc until they can be properly vetted) plugins and ensuring you can respond to subject access request, should one be raised, seems more than sufficient. Moving to https is just best practise and should be done regardless.
Instead it seems we've had a lot of knee jerk shutdowns in response tonghe general FUD surrounding the whole GDPR issue. Last edited by Karlos on 05-Jun-2018 at 10:34 PM.
