| Wow, someone actually took the time to show a C= (not ESCOM / AT) A4000T working in 2014! There were only 200 made and I've only ever seen one on eBay and that had a broken door. Glad to see some fairly mint models still exist

... I just really think that the C= case design is timeless. I know that beige computers fell out of favour eventually but the frosted dark plastic window rounded bezel and Commodore vent design is quite simply the best looking computer tower ever made! It is such a shame the factory was spluttering them out as Commodore was dying

Are you sure that's a Commodore design? It looks a lot like a case one would find for sale in Computer Shopper back in the day. I always assumed they used a generic case because the financial situation was grim. Not that it looks bad; just similar to what was around back then.
The A4000 desktop case has a similar generic look to it. The A3000, on the other hand, is a work of art (IMO, or course).
Update: So this is my 1000th post. It took me over ten years of posting (mostly nonsense) to get here. I'm not sure if this is an accomplishment or not.

Commodore didn't even produce an A4000T; that was Escom. Though I did always like Commodore's case designs for Amigas.
Edit: Well, speaking of nonsense... the article first states that it's an Escom product, but later in the article states that it's the last computer released by Commodore International. Last edited by simplex on 10-Jun-2018 at 08:13 PM.

No not ESCOM, AFAIK it was Quickpak.
ESCOM/Amiga AT paid them a lot of money to place an oversized mother board into a standard PC Tower.
There might have been some A4000T prototypes with a different design ... but no one knows.
Update:
Wikipedia says: Quote:
This was the last computer to be released by Commodore International. It is estimated that only 200 Commodore branded A4000Ts were produced before the company folded. [1][citation needed] Production of the A4000T was restarted after Escom bought the Amiga assets. Apart from the new option of a 68060 CPU, the Escom-manufactured 4000Ts had minor differences from the old one including the substitution of the high density floppy drive with a double density one, and a different front bezel on the case. |

I don't quite understand the confusion over this!? Between 100 and 200 Commodore Amiga 4000T computers rolled off the production line BEFORE C= went bankrupt FACT! The video shows that at least one of them is in working order as of 2014.
Production was indeed restarted under the stewardship of ESCOM / Amiga Technologies but with a different (and not as stylish IMHO) case design. The Wikipedia article is correct.
I hope that clears it up. Below is the original Commodore case design:

It's my 4000T in the video - just to demonstrate that it Works. Only 70 Machines was produced and only 35 was working:http://www.bigbookofamigahardware.com/bboah/product.aspx?id=31

The confusion is because Wikipedia (the source I used) doesn't say this. It first implies that the 4000T was produced only by one of Commodore's successors. You have to dig into the article to see that Commodore actually produced any.
The fact that there are so few, and that they were produced only in 1994, the same year as when Commodore went bankrupt -- and relatively early in the year, too -- should make the confusion quite understandable._________________ I've decided to follow an awful lot of people I respect and leave AmigaWorld. We've had over 20 years to get out heads round it. But because people don't know they exist never mind how rare they are one ended up in a car boot sale in Hamburg, Germany as recently as 2014! I dread to think how little the previous owner asked for it _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

I have a copy of CU Amiga with a review of it somewhere. I already wanted to find the issue because I was curious if it shipped with 3.1. |

The plastic parts on my A4000T has a mould date that says march 1994. Iirc the machine has an assembly in early april 94 (has to check) - so besides being extremely rare - the A4000T is considered as the last machines ever produced by Commodore.
@Rob " Unlike the desktop version, the A4000T also includes a SCSI-II controller on the motherboard in addition to a 3.5" IDE controller. This is why the A4000T uses a slightly different version of Kickstart 3.1 compared to other Amigas (including the A4000). It contains the drivers for the SCSI-II controller in ROM and in order to allow it to fit, workbench.library was moved from ROM, supplied on the Workbench disks and is loaded from LIBS: like any other disk based library."

| Wow, I had no idea A4000Ts were THAT rare.
Back in my film school days, a few of us were putting together video production facilities. I was an Amiga guy but could only afford to cobble together a PC-based editing solution that was slow as molasses. One of my friends had considerably more money, and he built a beast of an A4000T with Video Toaster Flyer, that could spit out amazing edited video in real time.
I recall he had a lot of difficulty getting his A4000T to start with. He ordered it as soon as it was announced, and it took months and a lot of cajoling with dealers.
I hope he still has that machine somewhere. Probably one of the few computer purchases that count as an investment! Last edited by Dave73 on 12-Jun-2018 at 01:25 PM.

I'm guessing he managed to get an Amiga Technologies / ESCOM A4000T from 1996 onwards which number in the low thousands rather than a maximum theoretical total of only 200 Commodore A4000Ts!!!!!!
The AT A4000Ts are rare enough but the C= version is rare like hen's teeth / four leafed clover etc Last edited by BigD on 12-Jun-2018 at 01:52 PM.

Now you are really convincing me that he got a unicorn. He got his machine in late '94.
I built my DPS Perception machine in early/mid '95, after he had his A4000T. |

| I recall seeing these on display at the WOA in NYC in 1993.
At that time, Lew Eggebrecht was with Commodore. |

Ahh nice - stored in on my OneDrive some years ago - could not remember were I got it. Tried to find the image again on Google but without success.
Any story to add to the picture? _________________ Maintainer of www.bigbookofamigahardware.com |

I wish I had a better memory. :)
I attended the World of Amiga show in NYC I believe twice with friends. That was 1 of a few loose photos I found a few years back. Was a great time, wish I had taken more pics. I remember meeting Kiki Stockhammer at one of the shows.
Those were great times! Although looking back, I think we all knew the writing was on the wall for Commodore. They were moving way too slow compared to the rest of the computer industry. |
