| Hi
I managed to download some Scumm VM games and later I would like to burn to CD.As I have both BIN and ISO files and don't know if I can burn the BIN file, how can I do it?
Is there a possibility to burn this BIN file with MakeCD or Frying Pan?
How to do it?
Thanks in advance _________________ AMIGA 500 1.5 MB ACA500/ACA1232 accelerators AMIGA 500 German CD32 unexpanded Amiga 1200 Tower on AmigaKit since years AMIGA 1300 030/50 Mhz/32 MB WB 3.9 with lots of games&demos AMIGA ONE XE G3 PPC 800 Mhz/1 GB RAM/RADEON 9250 128 MB/SATA CONTROLLER |

| There are tools on os4depot to convert bin/cue to iso if you prefer iso files. |

At first I read the subject as, "Burning .BIN filled with my Amiga One X5000." It looked very interesting.
This is still interesting, but not in quite the same way. _________________ I've decided to follow an awful lot of people I respect and leave AmigaWorld. If for some reason you want to talk to me, it shouldn't take much effort to find me. |

From the MakeCD FAQ: Loading and importing the .bin and .cue in makecd:
load makecd press right mouse button and go to EDIT>IMPORT CD IMAGE>CDRWIN (.cue) a file requester will let you select the .cue for the vcd you want to burn burn as usual with the WRITE CD button
http://www.estamos.de/makecd/
Don't know about BIN by itself as it tends to have a CUE file with it. However, if you have a normal ISO image, you can just use that with MakeCD. From root window click Add then for Source use image and select ISO file. |

| @Hypex He's using an X5000 and burning (or even playing) a CD is no as straight-forward as you might think. There is no CD0: on the X5000. It starts with CD1: when you insert a formatted CD and then increments the CD unit every time you replace a CD with another (e.g. CD1: CD2: CD3: etc.). It works nore like USB (USB0: USB1: etc.) than CD devices on all other OS4 hardware.
Even the SYS:Utilities/PlayCD utility is difficult to use on the X5000. You need to insert a CD in the drive, check what CD number it's been assigned (CD1: CD2: CD3: etc.), change the "DOSDEV" tooltype in the PlayCD icon to match the CD number that was assigned to the CD you inserted and then start PlayCD. You have to repeat those steps every time you insert a different CD. I've been told the reason for the strange CD system is that the p5020sata.device hasn't been finished yet.
Even if 'newlight' finds a way to convert BIN or a program that will burn them, he may have problems burning a CD on the X5000.

That is strange. Though both my AmigaOne machines have two optical drives so also have a CD1.
I'm surprised to find PlayCD works the same way. Honestly. Is OS4 still catching up with Windows 95 in terms of user friendliness?
I would have thought by now, especially in light of NSD, there would be a way to scan the device list and build up a list of devices and units matching a certain criteria. Like a list of optical drives.
Even so, PlayCD could as easily just scan the DOS list for devices matching CD?. How hard can it be? The problem with AmigaOS is to much dependence on DOS devices or expecting an Exec device and unit. That is technical and the user should not have to deal with that crap anymore. Even in OS4 config files it extracts volume names back to a device name so good luck transferring that Workbench to another system.
However, MakeCD, AmiDVD and perhaps even FryingPan can scan devices and find where the CD drives are so that shouldn't be a problem with burning. |

It's possible but never previously necessary. Since all other Amigas (OS3 & OS4) have a fixed DOS device name, programs like PlayCD get the DOS device name from a tooltype, shell argument or prefs so the user can specify the device name. Just like USB, once the device names are added, they remain in the system and PlayCD would need to determine which CD device has a CD inserted. For example, if the user has inserted and removed 3 CDs (CD1: CD2: CD3:) and then reinserted the CD (volume) that corresponds to CD1, then PlayCD would need to check all the CD devices to find out which one has a CD inserted. The same problem occurs if you are trying to rip CDs with ADRipper.

The problem with CD burners is that DOS CD devices don't get mounted unless a CD is readable. In other words, if you insert a blank CD-R it doesn't get mounted and the burner won't find it. The only way I got AmiDVD to burn a CD was to create a mountfile, insert a blank CD-R and mount the DOS CD device with the 'mount' command. Even then AmiDVD throws up a bunch of errors before and after burning a CD. Despite all the errors the burnt CDs seem to work. If the system would mount a blank CD-R as unformatted like it does with unformatted hard-disk partitions, burning might work.
I think the real solution is to get the X5000 CD system to work like all other Amigas (fixed CD DOS device names) and get an X5000 software update released.

Yes Amiga can burn anything it can like in even other surfaces than CD0: or CD1: because it has the resources and powerful enough system to do it and is the best all around.
I defend the Amiga because it doesn't have to defend it rules everywhere.
And if there is a problem Amiga must recover it well and easy.
Good luck to you and me,we will surely have
In an addition menace I will try and download first Frying Pan

I think MakeCD could do no? So tell me then and explain to have a usable CD burning system.
And we can reach to more power but that's not enough
If MakeCD can burn my CUE/BIN files I will be happy to know.
I expect more of my Amiga X5000 Amiga system because it has very good powers and is clean
Tell me the truth men.
I will be grateful _________________ AMIGA 500 1.5 MB ACA500/ACA1232 accelerators AMIGA 500 German CD32 unexpanded Amiga 1200 Tower on AmigaKit since years AMIGA 1300 030/50 Mhz/32 MB WB 3.9 with lots of games&demos AMIGA ONE XE G3 PPC 800 Mhz/1 GB RAM/RADEON 9250 128 MB/SATA CONTROLLER |

That's the problem. It's still rigid. You still have to plug it in. And what if you have two drives? Can you tell it both? Sure you can get technical and tell it the Exec device name but will it scan the bus?
But also, I don't use a computer to play a CD, or rigid programs like PlayCD. I use a real CD player without these dumb problems.

I agree. I've never had the kind of problems that you are describing with AmiDVD. I've always been able to use AmiDVD with a blank disc that I recall. And format any I wanted to. |

What's going on is we're waiting for you to tell what's going wrong. Was MakeCD able to find the right device and CD units? Do you have a CDRW to test on to see if the X5000 can burn a disc?
Are you running the latest patched MakeCD 3.2d?
For reference. Here's the complete full version: http://home.lizzy.com.au/dmaen/downloads/MakeCD_3.2d.lha
So MakeCD all up and running I wonder? |

The X5000 only has 2 SATA connectors; one for the hard drive & one for the CD/DVD drive. You would need a SATA card to add a second CD/DVD drive and I don't know if that works. PlayCD may be rigid but it's the CD player that's included with OS4._________________ X1000 with 2GB memory & OS4.1FE |
