| AmigaOS 2 was a big leap from 1.3. 3.0 & 3.1 not so much, so I guess that it is best to target 2.x users than narrowing the users base by going 3.x any thoughts? |

I've the feeling that AmigaOS 2 is the most used version but I might be wrong. Having AmigaOS 2 as the base will cover most of the users. Last edited by kamelit0 on 26-Jun-2018 at 05:41 AM.

| Most improvements in 2.0 went into DOS. It also introduced commodities, asl, gadtools and BOOPSI.
Biggest improvement in 2.1 was locale.
So if your app has a GUI and processes data, then 2.x is a good base.
The improvements in 3.0 are in graphics, datatypes and RTG.
So if your app processes graphics or is a game, then 3.x is required, otherwise you would have to reinvent all the wheels yourself again.

AFAIK OS 2.x didn't know the concept of datatypes and the BOOPSI framework lacked a few important features, so no, not really. Going below OS 3.x doesn't make good sense.

You are wrong. As only A3000/T, late A2000/2500 and A500+/600 shipped with OS2.x, most Amiga users had OS1.x (A500) or OS3.x (A1200). There really is no need to support 2.x. |

There's no need to support 2.x, but if a program happens to not need 3.x functions it's great if it works together with 2.x, right?
1.x is another story. |
