funny enough, this is the thing i thought retro hobbies are for, remembrance of things in their conserved state, be it stagnation and quarrel, if thats whats being usually associated with. |

Well, it wasn't the stagnation and quarreling which originally drew me in and kept me engaged in the platform.
It would be nice to get back to the point where we could at least get a reasonable number of broken promises again. |

in retrospect, i have experienced sort of stagnation, false promises, delusion and quarrelling soon after i have been dragged in, beginning of the nineties. but admittedly not to the point as it is usually customary since the ppc replacement platforms. i can pretty well survive without it, but if the drama is the sole merit of being here, so be it. |

Platform. From my POV that is the major problem, it is no longer a platform regardless of the case it is in or the cost.
It is merely a PC with an odd CPU. The processor really does not matter. The rest of the hardware is nothing Amiga. Not one card, device or gadget sets it apart from the plethora of other PCs out there. The Xena slot (X1000) is so poorly documented in relation to the OS and CFE that nobody has done anything with it.
This is not a 'Platform' any longer.

You're not supposed to do a lot in the BIOS, it just supposed to load the OS from disk, so you can boot.
Anyway there 4 different BIOS in AmigaOS4.x compatible hardware.
* kickstart3.x. on Classic computer you run program to load AmigaOS4 kickstart files, * UBOOT found in Sam440/460/AmigaONE-SE/XE/Mini * OpenFirmware found In Pegasus II hardware. * CFE found in AmigaONE-X1000 flash rom.
About hardware design, I agree they should made it bit more Amiga, thinking about CIAA/CIAB timers joystick ports, maybe even stick a Paula chip on it. (Too much hardcoded to that shit.
Personally, I think AGA was dead in 1991 when SVGA was released, the only thing Amiga had that PC did not was good monitor sync, something that made it into PC graphics as well eventually.

kickstart is not the same as bootloader.

I ended up using Ed but the file had a linefeed so I didn't trust it. |

I may have stopped caring. But I would prefer to be warned that I need to pay for a promise to be completed instead of an offer for free lunch that leaves us hungry. However I am more annoyed at broken software right now which contnues to bore the scene. |

I'm working on it or I was until my XE went up the duff. But OS4 does emulate a mouse button on $BFE001. For Paula and anything else it would need to be mapped into memory either way. Paula didn't do much over PCM so it shouldn't be that hard.

I don' know. A brief read up on SVGA then stated it wasn't formally made a standard. And offered 800x600 in 4 bit. 1024x768 in 8-bit if you are lucky. That's not exactly superior to the Amiga HAM 18-bit modes and copper listings. With scrollings.

Linux is lot easier to boot then AmigaOS, and is maybe what UBOOT/CFE/OpenFrimware was deigned for. |
What!?
On the X1000 you must manually set these vars in CFE with its bugs in toe. The kernel and ramdisk can't be loaded off HDD. You can't autoboot any Linux installer. Broken kernels are hard to figure out and fiddly to fix up or update. There is no kernel package I am aware of.
An old PC is a better Linux experience. But, although the user experience can be rather poor and is let down with a slower speed, the AmigaOne XE Linux installer and Linux booting experience totally craps over X1000 Linux! It shouldn't be that way but it is. The XE isn't beaten yet by any other AmigaOne branded machine that I know of. Last edited by Hypex on 09-Jul-2018 at 06:52 PM.

| Transcendence Blockchain is gone live ..
TELOS coin can now be traded on graviex and we are listed on Masternodes.online
https://masternodes.online/currencies/TELOS/
I have told you.. but this is just the beginning. Target price for one TELOS is 1€ .
indieGO! Appstore and AmiCloud will be merged into our upcoming Wallet which will be also available for AmigaOS/AROS/MorphOS..
I just tell it because at some point the entry point is not that cheap. To be precise... it was free and we have still some open bounties on the discord channel.
.... and now.. Since we have ensured payments for developers.. what next?

You realise that's seriously out of date I hope? There have been massive changes with the internal NetSurf APIs since then. If you're trying to use it as-is, fine. If you're using it as a starting point to update, you're better off starting again and just using it as a reference.
