Hi all!

Looks like my A1200 piggybacked SD/FF, one like this one, doesn't like my old BenQ 17" VGA monitor, looks like they don't get synced.

My question is, prior to opening the thing: is there any way to modify the frequency the SD/FF outputs, in order to make it match with the monitor?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Saluditos,

Ferrán.

@g01df1sh

A pretty standard one by that time, FP767-12.

@Ferry

Oh I have a Benq 702A which works with out scan doubler as long as all you want is default Amiga modes it is a great little monitor and just needs a VGA to video port adapter.

@Ferry

The other end should have a brass adjustment screw. Have you turned it?

@zipper

Hmmm… no. I didn't even know that there was a screw there. I will take a look. Thanks for the info.

Anyway, I will try to find the instructions, I wouldn't like to break it up.

Saluditos,

Ferrán.

@zipper

I found the documentation for the SD/FF:

http://bboah.amiga-resistance.info/cgi-bin/showhardware_en.cgi?HARDID=355

Looks like the screw is for image fine-tunning, not related to frequency, I think. And the image of the PCB shows no other potentiometer or screw…

http://bboah.amiga-resistance.info/download_photos/mv1200_6_big.jpg

Will keep investigating…

Saluditos,

Ferrán.

@Ferry,

It sold under many different names. Use the screw, It does what you need. Fine tune both ways and find the g-spot. Lol.

@Ferry

I used my EZ-VGA (early version of that thingy) in A500T and A4000. When changing machine I had to turn the adjustment 10 rounds or more to get the picture. And when the thingy warmed up it needed a little adjustment again.

@g01df1sh

Thanks for the info. Since I need to connect both my A1200 and my A1, I just bought a second hand Dell U2410 for less than 100€ -it costed between 350-400€ new-.

It has been reported to work pretty well with 15kHz modes, has several connections -2 x DVI, 1 x VGA, 1 x Display Port, 1 x Components video and 1 x composite video-, it does PiP/PbP too, great in order to have both Amigas on the same screen, so let's see if it can do what it promises…

Saluditos,

Ferrán.

@zipper

Did you get a black screen before adjustment, or a distorted screen? I'm getting the first…

Ferrán.

I think if you are too far off the sweet spot it does black screen, then turning gets a distorted pic until you are spot on. Depends on the hardware.

Hmmmm… I'll try it, but I'm not so sure: it has worked just fine in my TV set using the VGA connector, it fails in the BenQ TFT. I tend to think it has something to do with the fact of the BenQ being more picky about frequencies than other monitors (I think I was using DblPAL by default).

I'll try the screw, and several other things, like changing screenmode to Multiscan or Productivity, with real 31kHz output (DblPAL has 28kHz or so).

Thanks for the help.

Saluditos,

Ferrán.

@Ferry

I was testing some LCD monitor I had and kept getting a blank screen. And this is through RTG. Turned out it didn't like any modes under 60Hz. Some monitors are picky. I've never had so much trouble with monitors till I used these rigid LCD ones and that is with RTG where it should just work.

@Hypex

My two Benqs are quite tolerant, they start at 24 kHz (regrettably not 15 kHz) and do happily 50 Hz - the older even starts at 44 Hz!
