Poll : Will Dreams revolutionise creative programs?
Yes, it's like Bars & Pipes / Deluxe Paint / Blitz Basic all in one but accessible
Yes, it's like Little Big Planet and MTV Music Generato but better
Yes, I would buy a PS4 just to use this
Meh, I'm old school, consoles should be games only IMHO
Possibly but I'm not creative and don't care
No, it is over hyped
No, it is severely limited compared to a computer program

Media Molecule continues to wow me with Dreams the creative 'game' / game engine / music creation tool / animation program etc etc!

Check this out for a live gig performed with Dreams....

http://www.pushsquare.com/news/2018/06/media_molecules_e3_2018_dreams_live_musical_performance_sure_is_something

What do you think?

Will this ever be released on the PS4 or is this a release program / game for the PS5 in 2019/2020?

@BigD

I think that it could be nice to play with and then slowly forgotten.

Although it does not really explain who does what and what is going on...

@BigD

I didn't see the option:
What's Dreams?

But what, PS5? The PS4 is already a PC in a black box now. What could they possibly do to make the PS5 any different?

@Hypex

New GUI, 4K Blu-Rays as standard, and higher design specifications for game development. They may think Dreams might differentiate the PS5 as more a creative user content generator compared to 'It's for the Players" marketing for the PS4. But yes, it'll be pretty much a PC variant in a black box for sure.

@Thread

Dreams is OUT! I don't have a PS4 but would love to have a go at some point!

In the meantime Ivan 'Zeb' Elwood and Chris Forrester have edited and improved the Blitz Basic 2.1 manual and Deluxe Paint V is calling! Creativity is in the air

See HERE for their Ultimate Blitz Basic installer and updated / improved manual and get creating!

Also, here is Pixel Vixen writing some code to merge palettes together!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Rg-Rav4V8k

That should inspire me to start messing around

@BigD I stumbled at heise.de over it.

https://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/PS4-Titel-Dreams-Spielen-und-Entwickeln-mit-dem-Universalgenie-4659086.html

(sorry english speaking ladies and gentlemen)

Its certainly worth a look. And I am tempted to to get it.

@LarsB

Great article but this the best one as it's from a developer's perspective!

One of the biggest things that annoy me in Tech industry is there kind of a snobbery that if you dont know how to do pure code, or work with the "industry" software in that market dont bother, when there are third party games and programs that have been made that make creating things so easily, annoyingly however porgrams like these are normally tied down to the Game, Dreams I think should become a unity and unreal competitive and export these games as third part apps it would be so cool

some of the stuff people have built with in it are nuts, true you may still need some raw talent to pull off a AAA game.
https://twitter.com/hashtag/madeindreams?lang=en

but why isent there more a main stream game and 3d engine that easy to work with.
I remeber playing with Spore and later Spore Galatic Adventure that had a playdo kind of building engine, that let you easily build 3d creatures, cars, bulding, planes, space ships and let you build basiclly full 3d levels, here someone made Mario Kart in it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzjYRpw9KIc

yet the engine is locked to that game, all the stuff that was made for has now been lost, to me just seem a lost and holding back creativity.

@BigD @all

Have you obtained Dreams meanwhile? I did. Its great but more indirect than a programming langauage which can be annoying sometimes. But it makes it also easier in other ways. You dont need to control framerates. Can do 3D easy. The music tool is nice. You program in Dreams by wiring devices. But you have no keyboard. And you have to use controllers which are mapped double or even three times.

My first game is ready. A kind of a platformer with 5 Levels. 3 Metal/Deathmetal tunes composed by myself. But now I am tempted to do something with Hollywood again.

The good thing is that you get tons of games for the price of one and its creative. Also it makes me dream ;) 100 Mio. PS4 owners and it is on the roadmap to make games for PlayStation networks. :)

Any experience with Dreams?
Lars

@LarsB

I'll be waiting for the PS5 to try this but thanks for sharing your experiences! Death Metal hey?

A local bloke told me he's into Nile! Is that the sort of thing? I used to listen to the 'showwithnoname' on Cross Rhythms Radio and David Strafford presented a great feature called 'The Wrath of Straff'! It featured Christian Metal Bands, not that I had the ears to pick out the lyrics to be honest with you

All the best in your endeavours!

@BigD Thanks :)

Nile is something like this. :) Deathmetal is close Grindcore or Thrash. Personally I am into oldskool Hardcore and Punk. But for my games I dive into the atmosphere of the special music. Watched some cool Heavy Metal movies abut finnish Death Metal. My frogger clone has techno for example. But not composed by myself. Next is maybe techno/acid. Detahmetal is more like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1b2WoaIa0E

"Symphonic post apocalyptic reindeer-grinding-Christ-abusing extreme war pagan Fennoscandian metal" ;)

or in funny way:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDea7laHD4E

Christian HC and Metal is a contradiction in itself. ;)

Its good to wait for the PS5 experience but I would also purchase the special PS5 version of Dreams then. Sure PS5 is compatible to PS4 Software but the GFX memory space of Dreams is a little restricted. The cool new SSD sould make a difference.

Thanks for your feedback.
