| Hi Guys, What version of 68040.library should I be using with the 1240? I'm still using the supplied version from 3.1 (as 3.9 doesn't seem to have it!) Is there any software patches that can give me better performance?
Thanks, Wizz. _________________ Rev 1D3 Amiga 1200, Apollo 1240 (40Mhz '040, 64MB RAM), Indivision MKII, Fast ATA MK V, Rapid Road USB, PCMCIA WIFI & OS 3.14 |

Make sure that your ROM is relocated to Fast RAM and that execbase and the VBR are also moved. I bought one of the first cards way back when this accelerator was new and while I thought it was a big improvement I soon discovered that not everything was tuned as it should be. Tools like RemApollo and MCP allowed me to fix that and believe me having critical OS resources resident in chip ram was like leaving the handbrake on. Thor's MMU library may make this redundant but check anyway.
With all that fixed, look out for other patches like fblit, copymemquick and 040+ maths library replacements, data types etc. _________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |

I can confirm that: back in the day my 030/50 board gained lots of Workbench speed by doing the very same thing. Also be sure to install every and any library and datatype optimized for at least 020 you can put your hands on, that will make a difference too.
Have fun with your board! _________________ God created Paula so that Allister Brimble and Dave Whittaker could do music

| MMU libs has replacement 68040.library but it can also relocate ROM to fast ram.

I thought it might. Worth checking if anything is left in chip ram though. The speed penalty is significant. _________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |
