Yeah not real impressed with an outfit that takes months to migrate a simple website.. Sure it is a lot of work but come on...
Sad really

The problem is it wasn't a simple website. There is a lot of content that was ported between third party forum plugins the last time there was a platform migration. I know how awkward that was because I was involved in making it happen. I suspect the hold up is around that same issue this time.
I do share the concern it is taking too long. Every day that passes is probably a day another user gives up checking. _________________ Doing stupid things for fun... |

| I’m not going to pass any criticisms for technical issues but, for me, this goes beyond the inability to “chill” on AO. This year was the first opportunity I’ve had to go to AmiWest and had really wanted to discuss plans with other AO buddies for attendance, etc. This chance has been lost now as I fear it is far to late to engage AO members this late in the year. Most probably have other plans at this point and I have no way to get in touch with any possible attendees from that forum.
I agree, if the forum takes too much longer to bring back up, you may well lose members for good and this may also be hurting AmiWest attendance.
At this point A-EON might want to think about just starting over as all site history is gone from Google since they changed the URL anyway (How would that even be possible to re-populate Google). To me, this is a huge loss of information as I used to rely on Amiga.org Google searches on almost a daily basis.
I also noticed that some logon credentials were already broken. Upon a member returning when the site does come back up, they might not ever be able logon with their old ID if the email they had in their profile is no longer valid or the member never entered a valid EM to get a new PW emailed to them. I know I can’t. They may have to come up with a global scheme to force everyone to change their password the first time they logon.
I’m just concerned that there may be some member loss due to how much time has passed. Best of luck to them though! I hope to back soon! _________________ Fulfill newlight's Elite Narcissist Demands NOW Or He Will Send You To H3LL! |

Forum is in beta why not just open it to everyone and we can discuss and iron the bugs out as we go. I got sent a username and password and still cant access the beta forum even...

I can understand a site having difficulties etc but this is the watering hole of a relatively large community and they need to know what is going on. It really wouldn't hurt to have a simple message board on the page they have with some kind of thermometer showing a percentage of progress. There was an initial estimate of like a couple of weeks ... so anyone with a strong link to the forum is going to move on.
Puzzling cus none of the members of the forum like me are being kept informed and there is no way to get a weekly update. Just that I have seen so many useful sites go down the pan and we need all the community we can muster.
I doubt they read this but hey come on guys get involved with your community and give them some comfort that it will be business as usual real soon.

There is an alternative amiga.org group on Facebook as a holdover until the site comes back up. It has over 1400 members.

If you are trying to get in touch with someone or deal with some issues perhaps try there? |

I can recall when they added CSS. A major change that broke in most Amiga browsers. So if you used a real Amiga at the time you were stufffed. AmigaWorld managed to add CSS whlist retaining compatibility with older Amiga browsers. As well as the recent GPDR update. I'm serious, when I view it in Safari, it looks enhanced.
So hopefully it won't turn out to be a Duke'm'Nukem length of time update.
But right now nothing to my knowledge compares with the Sinead'O'Connor of Amiga websites: UtilityBase.
http://utilitybase.com
UtilityBase is currently disabled. But will be back soon
For how many years now? Classic. |

That may be the case but no website should ever take months to migrate.. I am an I/T guy and I can tell you that if we took this kind of time for a website or dbase / systems migration we would all be looking for jobs..

I don't think the forum is coming back online to be honest. It's all very sad. I do hope I'm wrong but not looking good. If it were my site I would be at least trying to comfort my supporters if I were struggling to get the thing back online. I know its not the same but I have moved my site twice with all my thousands of files and images and made sure the new site was up and running before I switched over. I also ran the old site in tandom for a few months to catch those that missed the new bookmark. I even recently had to update every page on the site to get Googles approval as a phone friendly site and again I made sure all the old content was available. Even now the old frames version is still active. Its a lot of work but then thats the challenge. Mostly though, keeping your public informed is the important thing.
By the way ... I study in detail my statistics for page hits on my site and there is still a massive following for the Amiga. And so when I post on the forums I can see just how many guys hit the site from the forum post. Amiga Org was a very big hitter. And so its troubling that all those interested in the platform using the site are now kinda having to find new homes. I mean they are hardly going to be hanging about with a defunct site. They really need to get their act together, whoever they are.
Anyway nuff said. Fingers crossed. Just want the forum back.

As an IT guy you should also be aware that unless there is significant risk to revenue, improvement or even basic maintenance work will never happen at all, let alone at a slow pace. Last edited by Karlos on 28-Aug-2018 at 10:08 PM.
